Superbike Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round Odds Favorites, Betting Analysis and Picks

When you mention that there are only 8 events remaining in the Superbike season, you might think that’s it’s not a lot of time for the chasing pack to catch the rider atop the championship standings. Superbike is different to other motor sports, though, in that each event is comprised of 3 races, which means that there are actually still 24 races to come this season. That is a lot of time, but the reality is that someone needs to start making a move soon, as it is beginning to look as though we might have a runaway winner on our hands, which we will discuss in a moment. This weekend, the action moves to Italy for the Emilia-Romagna Round. Let’s take a look at some of the riders sure to be in contention.

WorldSBK Superbike Round 5 Betting Analysis: Pirelli Emilia-Romagna

When: June 2 to 4
Where: Emilia-Romagna, Italy
TV / Streaming: NBC Sports

Alvaro Bautista

Like we mentioned at the top of this piece, we are in danger of seeing one rider totally dominate the proceedings this season. That would be Bautista, who is off to an unbelievable start to the 2023 season. There have been 12 races to this point, and he has won all but one of them, with that lone defeat coming when he was forced to retire. His performance this season is actually more impressive than what he delivered last year, when he went on to win the World Championship. The question, though, is whether he can maintain this pace, which will certainly be easier said than done.

Toprak Razgatlioglu

If there is anyone who can run down Bautista this season, you would have to say that Razgatlioglu looks to be the most likely. In fact, he is perhaps a little unfortunate not to be even closer to the leader after a very good start to the year. Razgatlioglu has only been off the podium once, which came in a race he was unable to finish, and while that is certainly impressive, he needs to start turning some of those finishes into wins, which he has done just once this season. He is 69 points off the pace at the moment, which is not an insurmountable lead.

Andrea Locatelli

The gap between the top two riders and the rest of the pack is in danger of growing to a point where it becomes a 2-horse race. Locatelli has made a very decent start to the year, but he continually finds himself losing ground and is now 103 points back of the Bautista at the top of the standings. He has a pair of podium finishes in 6 races over the last 2 events, which, while certainly not terrible, is not good enough when you look at what the 2 riders ahead of him are doing.

Jonathan Rea

Given what we have seen to this point in the season, it is tough to make a case for any other rider to win a race other than the top 2 in the standings. Rea is a 6-time former world champion, although his last title came in 2020, which was his 6th in a row. Since then, he has finished 2nd and 3rd overall, and is currently sitting in 4th this time around. He has 4 podium finishes this season but failing to finish 2 races has also hurt his cause. Not a guy you can ever totally count out, though.
