WRC 2022 Italy Rally Betting Favorites, Analysis & Prediction

Unlike other motor sports where we get races weekly or every couple of weeks, the WRC is a little more spread out. After a few weeks away, the WRC returns this weekend with a rally in Italy, which will serve as race #5 of the 13-race season. As it stands at the moment, we have a runaway leader atop the driver standings, but with a large portion of the season still to come, no one is yet prepared to give it up and hand over the title just yet. Still, this is an important race for all the drivers in the chasing pack, as they all need to start closing the gap sooner rather than later. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the current top 4 in the driver standings to see how they might do this weekend and you can make your bets against their WRC Odds.

2022 Rally Italia Sardegna Analysis and Preview | WRC Betting

Kalle Rovanpera

Over the last couple of seasons, Rovanpera has been making steady improvements and now looks ready to claim his first World Championship. Last season saw him pick up his first win on the WRC, which he soon followed with a second victory. Overall, he finished 4th in the driver standings, which was his best finish to date. This year, he started out with a 4th place finish in Monaco, but he has been unstoppable since then, winning 3 consecutive races. Rovanpera has picked up 106 points already and has a 46-point lead over the 2ns place driver. Italy has not been a great location for Rovanpera, but given his current form, he should not be overlooked.

Thierry Neuville

In terms of consistency, you have to give Neuville some serious credit. He has no less than 5 2nd place finishes in the driver standings during his time in the WRC and closed out 2021 with a 3rd place finish. A championship has eluded him to this point, but this is a driver who you can always count on to be in the mix in just about every race. He has not picked up a win this season, but he has also yet to finish worse than 6th. This is a race that he might be ready to win, though, as he has a win and a pair of podium finishes in this rally in the last 4 runs.

Takamoto Katsuta

Last season was the first time that Katsuta raced in the WRC on a full-time basis, finishing a rather respectable 7th overall. His hope was that he would take another step forward this season and the early results suggest that he might just be ready to do that. While he has yet to have a podium finish this season, he has not finished worse than 6th in any of the races. He ran 4th in Italy last year, so we might expect to see a similar result this time around.

Ott Tanak

Given that Tanak won the World Championship back in 2019, he comes into each season among the favorites to win it all again. He has, though, taken a bit of a backward step since winning that title and is off to a slow start to this season. He failed to finish the opening race of the year and was a non-factor in the 2nd race, He has steadied the ship with a pair of good runs, but he has a lot to do to get back into the championship race. He won in Italy in 2017, but has been up and down in this rally in the following years.
