2022 NCAA Football Championship Betting Prediction: Will Georgia Repeat?

2022 NCAA Football Championship Betting Prediction: Will Georgia Repeat?

Last season, Kirby Smart finally got over the Alabama hump when leading the UGA Bulldogs to their first National Championship since 1980. This season, Smart hopes to prove that the Dawgs have championship legs. A return to the College Football Playoff is one thing. Winning back-to-back titles puts Georgia on rival Alabama’s level. See below for UGA’s College Football National Championship odds, reasons Georgia will repeat as champions, reasons the Bulldogs won’t, and whether or not Georgia is a good bet to make it two straight trophies.

Reasons Georgia will repeat as National Champions

  • Georgia’s odds to win the National Championship: +330

Once again, the offense is stacked. Quarterback Stetson Bennett heads to his seventh, yes, seventh college football season. Bennett has seen everything a defense is ever going to throw at him.

Not only that, but he may be sitting on his very best season as a college QB. Bennett got better towards the end of the regular season. Then he got even better in the CFP victory over Michigan.

The amazing thing is that Bennett played the best football of his career in the fourth quarter versus Alabama in the National Championshiop game. Stetson Bennett will be pushed for starter reps from a talented group of underclassmen.

But Kirby won’t make the same mistake twice. It took him forever to start Stetson. He won’t keep Bennett on the bench this season.

Not only does Stetson Bennett have the most experience of any college starter at quarterback in 2022, but three offensive linemen from last season’s dominant group returns. Georgia’s offense will be the reason the Bulldogs win their second straight championship.

Reasons Georgia won’t repeat as National Champions

The Bulldogs’ offense should be plenty good enough to help Georgia to a College Football Playoff spot, but once there, the offense could stumble.

The defense almost certainly will stumble. There’s no way to replace five defensive NFL first round draft selections, two starting linebackers, and a starting cornerback. That’s eight starters from Georgia’s National Championship winning defense.

So although the Bulldogs should play well enough to be in the running for a college football playoff berth, the Dawgs won’t bark further than the semifinal contest.

Final Analysis: Is Georgia a good bet to repeat as National Champions?

It’s impossible to say the Georgia Bulldogs got lucky. Georgia played best and beat two solid teams, Michigan and Alabama, on their way to a title.

So we can’t say the Dawgs got lucky. We can, though, write that luck was on Georgia’s side. Let’s not forget that in the SEC Championship, Bama QB Bryce Young torched the Dawgs’ vaunted D for 421 yards and 3 TD passes.

Crimson Tide RBs ran over Travon Walker, Nakobe Dean, and the rest with 112 rushing yards. So Alabama destroyed Georgia’s defense in the first game.

Why did Georgia easily handle Alabama in the rematch? Jameson Williams got injured during the game and John Metchie III didn’t play. If Young had his top two targets, who knows who might have won the title game?

The fact is that Georgia is a fantastic college football team, but their offense won’t hang with Alabama’s, Ohio State, or USC’s, which means the Dawgs will have to lean on their defense. Losing eight starters will hurt.

So at the end of the day, Georgia has a chance to return to the CFP. Once there, they will fall in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
