NCAA Football Betting Picks: Five Overrated College Teams to Wager Against in 2022

The 2022 College Football Season kicks off on August 27. It feels like a long time from now and from one perspective it is. But when it comes to planning ahead, now is the time to consider what teams to play and what teams to play against during the season. Check out five teams that, no doubt, will find it difficult to cover overlay spreads this season. Let’s get right to it so you can place your bets against the NCAAF Odds.

5 Overrated College Football Teams You Can Bet Against This Season

2022-23 NCAAF College Football Season

  • When: August 27, 2022 – Dec. 10, 2022

** National Rankings as of June 6, 2022.

7-Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Brian Kelly left Notre Dame to coach the LSU Tigers but that doesn’t appear to have affected the Irish’s early season ranking. There’s a reason to believe Notre Dame does very well.

The offensive line has the chance to be special. But the Irish must find a quarterback. Not only that, the defense is in transition. Notre Dame will beat inferior opponents. Covering spreads is another matter.

Michigan State Spartans – Early Rank 9

Michigan State returns 9 players on defense. One would think with 9 returning players, the Sparty D would be a force.

But Michigan State’s defense had major issues in 2021. There’s no telling if the defense will be good or not. The offense should struggle after losing 6 starters. Almost as important? The Big Ten should be as deep, if not deeper, than it was in 2021.

Clemson Tigers – Early Rank 12

Clemson’s offensive line was a mess in 2021. Although the line returns pretty much intact, it may not matter. Not only that, but Clemson is, again, one of the favorites to make it to the College Football Playoff.

So the Tigers are likely to face ridiculous spreads that they will have trouble covering. Clemson’s march to the ACC Championship might be assured because the rest of the conference, outside of Miami, is also a mess. Still, they won’t cover spreads because, like almost every season, Clemson figures to be overplayed.

Oklahoma Sooners – Early Rank 14

The Sooners should have a better defense now that Brett Venables is the head coach. But the former Clemson defensive coordinator has neve paid attention to offense and if you want to cover spreads in the Big 12, you must score.

Also, the Sooners lost plenty of talent after new USC coach Lincoln Riley raided the Sooners’ depth chart. Also, Oklahoma faces the same issues so many other teams on this list face.

The schedule shouldn’t be tough. So the Sooners will have to cover massive spreads as a big time chalk. It’s tough to cover huge spreads when your offense finds it difficult to score.

Pittsburgh Panthers – Early Rank 15

Pittsburgh picked up USC quarterback Kedon Slovis. But the Panthers’ new signal-caller isn’t close to Kenny Pickett’s level.

Also as important? Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison transferred to USC. Losing Addison is huge because he would have helped Slovis pick up the offense.

On paper, Pitt’s offense and defense returns enough players to contend. But missing the two most important players from last season’s roster means the Panthers face a losing season against the spread.
