ESL One Eastern Europe Season 2: Upper Division Betting Preview for Saturday, May 16 Matches

Team Unique Vs Natus Vincere

  • When: Saturday, May 16 – 16:00 MSK

Natus Vincere and Team Unique met only three times in their history, and so far, Unique have yet to get the better of the Ukrainian side. These squads last clashed in January 2021, when NaVi swept Unique 2-0 during the first season of ESL One: Upper Division.

NaVi enter this match with a 3-2 record, which doesn’t look too good, but it’s worth pointing out that their only two losses of the tournament came against the surging Team Spirit and the world no.5 team Virtus.pro.

Team Unique, on the other side, managed a 2-3 record with two wins against PuckChamp and EXTREMUM, and three losses against Winstrike (1-2), Virtus-pro (0-2), and Team Spirit (0-2).

Everything points towards an easy 2-0 sweep for NaVi; however, the Ukrainians have dropped maps against weaker sides before. What’s more, this will mark NaVi’s first match in two weeks, so we can expect a bit shakier performance from them.

At +130 or better, siding with Unique is worth a shot.

Prediction: Team Unique +1.5 maps

Virtus.pro Vs Winstrike

  • When: Saturday, May 16 – 19:00 MSK

Virtus.pro have yet to lose a match this tournament, and if the bookmakers are to be trusted, that won’t change with the Saturday match. VP enter the fifth week of the competition with a 5-0 record, which includes sweeps of PuckChamp, Team Unique, Natus Vincere, and EXTREMUM.

Winstrike are 2-3 after five rounds of play which isn’t too great; however, it’s not like Anton “dyrachyo” Shkredov and his crew underperformed. Winstrike stole a map off Team Spirit (1-2) and played a close series with NaVi last week, which suggests they should do relatively well against VP as well.

The quality gap between these two squads is rather obvious, but we don’t believe Winstrike are as bad as the betting odds suggest. VP have shown some cracks before – namely with their overly aggressive playstyle.

VP are a very momentum-driven team that can either win a game with 20-2 in kills or give up over 20 deaths. Since VP are very efficient in closing out games (even when fighting from behind), we will avoid a map handicap bet on the underdogs.

That said, we are more than ready to side with Winstrike with a +11.5 kill handicap for both maps.

Prediction: Winstrike +11.5 kills (Map 1 and Map 2)

Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 2 – China Upper Division Betting Preview for Saturday, May 16 Match

PSG.LGD Vs Elephant

  • When: Saturday, May 16 – 18:00 CST

There is no debate about which team is the strongest, considering PSG.LGD are – as of Monday, May 10 – ranked world no.4, while Elephant sit in 18th place on the global rankings. That, however, doesn’t mean that PSG.LGD are guaranteed to win – especially not in an online match.

Elephant and PSG.LGD met nine times in their history, and surprisingly enough, PSG.LGD won only five (5-4) of those bouts. That includes two out of three in 2021 (2-1).

These teams last met about three weeks ago, when PSG.LGD edged past Elephant (2-1). While a win is still a win, it wasn’t a very convincing one from the ONE Esports Singapore Major semi-finalists.

Most esports bookmakers have Elephant priced as +160 underdogs, which suggests they have just a 38.5% chance of beating PSG.LGD. That seems a bit low if we consider how solid Zhang “Eurus” Chengjun and co. have been playing of late.

Across the last couple of weeks, Elephant showed great form. They took down Invictus Gaming (2-0), forced the surging Team Aster to three maps (1-2) and swept EHOME (2-0).

PSG.LGD are still stronger on paper, but with how volatile these Chinese derbies are it’s not entirely unlikely we could be in for a very close series. Elephant stole at least one map off PSG.LGD in six out of their ten meetings, including in three out of their last four.

PSG.LGD and Elephant played out 18 maps across their last seven best-of-three (Bo3) series produced. That averages out at 2.57 maps/series and does not take into account a handful of matches that proved extremely close and ended in 2-0 sweeps.

Prediction: Over 2.5 maps
