2022 English FA Cup Finals Recap

The 2022 English FA Cup quarter-finals included a pair of League 2 squads. Nottingham Forest hadn’t made the jump to the Premier League. Middlesborough, a League 2 team this season, participated in the quarters last season.

After the quarters, only Premier League squads had a chance to win the title. Crystal Palace faced off against Chelsea in one semi-final. In the other semi-final, Liverpool took on Man City.

Pool beat the Sky Blues and Chelsea took down Crystal. In the finals, the Reds beat the Blues 6-5 via a penalty shootout.

2023 English FA Cup Tournament Picks

  • Top Pick: Manchester City +330

This season’s Liverpool team isn’t close to the one that beat Chelsea at the 2022 FA Cup Finals. Pool misses Sadio Mane big time.

Because of that, City, the overall chalk, is the play to win the championship. In 14 starts, Erling Haaland has 21 goals and 3 assist. Erling is dominating and is the main reason the Sky Blues get the nod.

  • Second Pick: Arsenal FC +700

Between Arsenal and Liverpool, the Gunners are the much better pick to win the FA Cup. As of Jan. 5, Arsenal has an 8-point lead over Manchester City to win the Premier League.

EPL form doesn’t always translate to FA Cup form. In this case, it should. The Gunners attracted Gabriel Jesus over the summer. Jesus has provided immediate dividends, scoring 5 goals and dishing 5 assists in 14 starts.

  • Third Pick: Manchester United +1050

United is a point behind the Sky Blues and 9 points behind Arsenal on the Premier League standings. Give the Red Devils a big shot to win the FA Cup.

The Ronaldo situation is over. Stability should help Man United play above their talent level. If Marcus Rashford rediscovers his shooting touch, Jadon Sancho is there to support.

Also, Portugal’s best player, Bruno Fernandes, calls United home. Man U can for sure win the FA Cup.

  • Top Underdog: Newcastle United +1175

Everyone keeps expecting Newcastle to fall behind the top teams but in their last Premier League match, Newcastle drew 0-0 against Arsenal.

There isn’t a star on the roster. The closest is probably defender Kieran Trippier. But even Trippier isn’t really a star.

So how is Newcastle winning? Cohesion, teamwork, and all those other things we learn when we first start kicking a soccer ball. The top underdog to win the FA Cup offers excellent odds to get it done.
