Costa Rica Odds to Win the FIFA Qatar World Cup

  • Costa Rica +75000

For being such a small nation, Costa Rica has a great men’s soccer program. Los Ticos has secured bids to the last two World Cups.

Costa Rica has earned bids in five of the last eight World Cup cycles. Not only that, but Joel Campbell and Keylor Navas continue to play at a high level.

Make no mistake, Los Ticos is in a brutal group. Spain and Germany play in Group E. But although the chances of Costa Rica moving on from the group stage are slim, if Los Ticos pulls it off, who knows?

Costa Rica is one of the few ultra-underdogs that has made it to a quarterfinals match. If you want to back a big time underdog, backing Los Ticos is as good as any longshot play you can make.

Why Costa Rica will move to the next round

The Costa Ricans don’t boast a single UEFA League player, but he’s a good one. Keylor Navas is one of the top goalies in the world. The Paris Saint-Germain keeper will bail out Costa Rica during the World Cup.

As long as Navas plays at a high level, no shot is safe to hit the back of the net. If Joel Campbell continues to play well, the forward will give Costa Rica a chance to push for draws versus Germany and Spain and to beat Japan.

Why Costa Rica won’t move to the next round

Navas and Campbell are terrific players for sure. But Costa Rica landed in a tough group. If Los Ticos were in a different group, they might have a shot.

Few teams at this year’s World Cup, though, stand a chance versus Germany and Spain. The Spanish have turned into a very good soccer team.

The word is out on Germany. Action has fallen to the Germans in the past few weeks. So although Costa Rica has a shot to beat Japan, Los Ticos won’t come close to beating Germany and Spain.

Final Analysis – Costa Rica can cause waves in a loaded Group E

Los Ticos has a good chance to beat Japan. Beating Germany and Spain will be more difficult. If the Costa Ricans manage a draw versus either the Germans or Spanish, Lost Ticos could stamp their ticket to the knockout stage.

Targeting Spain for a draw makes more sense then going after Germany. The odds on Germany have fallen from +1400 to +1200 and now to +1000.

Players know that when the World Cup rolls around in November, the Germans will be playing like a machine. Spain is a different story.

The Spanish are a good team. But the 2010 champions failed to get past the group stage in 2014, and in 2018, Spain bowed out in the knockout stage.

If Costa Rica can force a draw with Spain, lose by no more than a goal to Germany, and beat Japan by a couple of goals, there’s a Round of 16 chance. We’re not saying it happens. But we are saying there’s a possibility it happens.
