Why should you bet this match?

On Group G’s first matchday, Uruguay takes on South Korea and Portugal battles Ghana. It’s important for both Group G favorites to get the jump on the other with a huge multi-goal victory.

In Uruguay’s case, beating South Korea shouldn’t be an issue. South Korea has some talent. Captain Son Heung-min plays for the Tottenham Hotspur. No doubt, Son is a top Premier forward.

But although Son will ensure South Korea has moments in this match, the Koreans don’t stand much of a shot versus a deep Uruguayan squad.

Like Uruguay, Portugal wants to get a big head start in the group. For Portugal, that means beating Ghana by more than a goal. 

At first glance, Ghana’s roster doesn’t compare to Portugal’s. Led by the great Christiano Ronaldo, Portugal boasts a star player at ever level.

Ronaldo, Portugal’s best forward, also doubles as their captain. Diogo Jota, a Liverpool forward, and Jao Felix, a forward for Atletico, are as good as it gets.

The midfield is fantastic. Bernardo Silva, who plays for Manchester City, and Bruno Fernandes, who steps onto the pitch for Man United are a couple of the best midfield players in the world. 

Portugal should dominate a Ghana side that got lucky to qualify for the World Cup. By the time this kicks off, Portugal will know by how many goals Uruguay won. Take that into consideration when deciding to bet on the Portuguese to cover the handicap and whether to go over or under the total.

No doubt, Portugal versus Uruguay should be one of the most electric matches of any group at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. If both teams play great in earlier group matches, expect Portugal to show up a slight favorite.

But although the chalk, Portugal projects as the loser against Uruguay. First, Uruguay will handle the Qatar heat better than the Portuguese.

Second, Ronaldo’s issues with his club squad, Man United, makes it difficult to see Christiano effectively leading Portugal. Ronaldo’s lack of leadership skills won’t affect Portugal against Ghana or South Korea.
