Soccer Betting Analysis of the First World Cup Match on Nov. 20, Brazil, and England Favorites to Win the Title

2022 Qatar World Cup

  • When: Nov. 20 – Dec. 18

Qatar versus Ecuador kicks off on Nov. 20

Last week, World Cup organizers made a small change to the schedule. The first match at this year’s World Cup happens on Nov. 20 instead of Nov. 21.

Host nation Qatar will kick things off versus CONMEBOL team Ecuador. The match will happen at Al Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor. Kick off is 11:00 am ET. FOX will air the game and, no doubt, Ecuador will be a big time favorite.

The host nation opening the tournament makes sense. Giving Qatar the spotlight, at least for a day, is a good thing.

On Monday, England takes on Iran, Senegal battles the Netherlands, and the United States goes against Wales. So by Nov. 21, nobody will care much about Qatar. The host nation deserves the spotlight because this year’s World Cup will be one of the most unique in history.

Brazil pulling away in the betting

Odds on Brazil continue to fluctuate between +450 and +460. Heading into August 15, the odds on the favorite to win the World Cup stand at +460.

Don’t be surprised if by the end of August, the odds are at +440 or less. Buzz has begun to build around the South American nation.

Brazil is loaded at every level. Not only that, but the Brazilians mustn’t rely much on Neymar. Not with Rodrygo, Richarlisson, Junior, Jesus, and Raphinha also playing forward.

The squad is deep. So the Brazilians will attract even more action as we head into September. Also, Brazil figures to be ready to roll. Unlike European teams, the Brazilians should have no trouble handling Qatar’s famous heat.

England throws their love behind Southgate

Gareth Southgate will be the highest-paid manager and coach at the 2022 World Cup, which is why the English felt it necessary to throw their weight behind him after less than stellar recent matches.

Southgate and England have had a terrible Nations League. Although technically still alive, it will be difficult for England to make it to the next stage.

England landed in the same group as Germany, Italy, and Hungary. The group is no slouch, but, so far, England has played the worst among the four.

The English drew 1-1 with Germany and 0-0 with Italy. But the Queen’s squad flubbed in two matches versus Hungary, falling 1-0 and then an inexplicable 4-0.

England threw their weight behind Southgate, stating they had confidence in the manager even though the team played terribly versus the Hungarians. So far, World Cup future bettors also remain bullish.

England is a +560 second choice to take the World Cup. France is a +610 third pick. So England continues to remain favored over their top European rival.
