The 2022 Memorial Day Tournament presented by Workday is on tap for the PGA Tour this week at Muirfield Village Golf Course in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Hall of Fame golfer Jack Nicklaus hosts the event, a tournament he founded back in 1976. The tournament has been a fixture on the PGA Tour ever since its inaugural tournament 46 years ago.
There were a lot of fireworks over the weekend last season. Jon Rahm walked off the 18th hole on Sunday with a comfortable six-shot lead only to be notified he had tested positive for a COVID-19 and had to withdraw from the tournament.
Rahm’s withdrawal opened the door for Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa to make a charge, eventually squaring off in a playoff. Cantlay got the best of Morikawa, winning the Memorial Tournament for the second time in three seasons. Cantlay will try to become just the third golfer in the tournament’s history to win the event three or more times.
The tournament winner receives 550 FedEx Cup points and $2.16 million of a hefty $12 million purse. It’s time to take a closer look at our Golf Betting analysis so you can get all set to bet against the PGA Tour Odds.
Golf Betting Preview for the 2022 PGA Tour The Memorial Tournament
Muirfield Village Golf Course
The Nicklaus-designed course opened its doors in 1974 and has served as the tournament host every year. Over the last two years, the course has seen significant changes, including reworked bunkers and greens, irrigation updates, and added length to contend with the continued improvement of technology.
With the added length, the course can now play over 7,600 yards depending on the setup and is a traditional par-72. Considered one of the tougher courses on the PGA Tour, MVGC has consistently ranked in the top-5 of difficulty.
Players in the Field
The Memorial Tournament is the second event in a row with invitational status on the PGA Tour schedule. An invitational event carries a smaller feed and gives the tournament committee more freedom with who they invite to play. Fans get another star-studded field with seven of the top-10 players in the world teeing it up.
Cantlay returns to defend his title, along with Rahm, hoping to add another Memorial Tournament title to his resume (2020). Rory McIlroy returns to action after a week off from action following the PGA Championship.
Bryson DeChambeau hopes to tee it up after missing key chunks of the season due to a wrist injury. The major winner hasn’t played competitively since missing the cut at the Masters in March.
Other notable players in the field include Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Smith, and Viktor Hovland. Rickie Fowler received a sponsorship exemption and will look to build off his solid play in recent weeks.
The Memorial Tournament Odds
Rahm (+800) is the clear-cut favorite after the success he’s had here the last two seasons. Cantlay (+1000) and McIlroy (+1100) follow, with McIlroy looking for his first victory at Jack’s place. Rounding out the top five are Schauffele (+1600) and Morikawa (+1800).
When looking at the pre-tournament plays, aim for players that have a historical success here, as six of the last seven winners of the event made the cut the previous year.
