Every year, the Breeders’ Cup Sprint provides one of the most exciting and competitive races at the Breeders’ Cup. This year could be different. If favorite Vekoma decides to run in the Sprint instead of the BC Dirt Mile, that could open the race up for an overlay winner. Vekoma is that strong of a runner. If Vekoma doesn’t go, which horse offering +1000 or less deserves a look to win the BC Sprint?

Steve Asmussen trained Volatile, which would have been the favorite had he not gotten injured. No worries for Asmussen. Both Nashville and Yaupon look as solid as can be. Yaupon has won three straight including the Grade 2 Amsterdam and Grade 3 Chick Lang in his last couple.

Nashville broke his maiden after running a half in 43.4. He followed that win up with an unreal allowance victory over the Keeneland dirt. The Breeders’ Cup happens at Keeneland this year, which means Nashville could have an advantage.

However, Nashville has yet to run at a race close to this level. He’ll also face more speed than he’s ever faced before. Still, if he gets an easy lead, he could go gate-to-wire. So, definitely consider if Vekoma decides to run in the Dirt Mile.

Name the top contender at odds of +1200 to +2400 that can win the Breeders’ Cup Sprint?

Even if horses look like a lock, they can have bad days. With that in mind, consider Frank’s Rockette a viable contender at +1500. If Vekoma skips and Nashville does get the lead, Yaupon and Frank’s Rockette should be in the second flight. Rockette’s got a nice closing kick, which means if Nashville folds under pressure, he could be the winner at overlay odds.

Is there a horse at odds of higher than +2400 that can win the Sprint?

Bon Raison could surprise. The Jack Sisterson trained horse is also rounding into form after winning an allowance at Keeneland. But the race would have to fall apart for Bon Raison to hit the board.

The Raison d’Etat sired runner is a stone-cold closer. Others must keep pace with Nashville and then Bon Raison must get the right trip. That’s a lot to ask, but, then again, we’re gong 24-to-1 odds. So, maybe, Bon Raison is worth a look.
