2021 AL Cy Young Odds Expert Analysis – MLB Betting

Written by on February 26, 2021

With the start of spring training here and the 2021 MLB regular season just over a month way from its April 1 start date, it’s time to take a look at the value-packed odds to win the 2021 American League Cy Young award.

MLB AL Cy Young Odds – Shane Bieber, Gerrit Cole Leading the Pack

New York Yankees ace right-hander Gerrit Cole is tied with Cleveland Indians staff ace Shane Bieber as prohibitive favorites at +330. Lucas Giolito sits alone as a +500 pick while Tyler Glasnow (+1200) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (+1500) round out the top five players on the odds board.

Let’s look at all of the AL Cy Young odds, followed by some brief analysis on each hurler.

AL Cy Young Odds 2021

Gerrit Cole

The 30-year-old right-hander went 7-3 in 12 starts in his first season with the Yankees in 2020. Cole finished with a fine, 2.84 ERA and will definitely have a shot to win the AL Cy Young in 2021.

Shane Bieber

The 25-year-old reigning AL Cy Young winner went a stupendous 8-1 in 12 starts with a mind-boggling 1.63 ERA. If he pitches anywhere near what he did last season, the 2021 AL Cy Young will be his to lose.

Lucas Giolito

The 26-year-old hurler went 4-3 with a 3.48 ERA in 12 starts for the Chicago White Sox last season. I don’t see it happening at all.

Tyler Glasnow

The 27-year-old Tampa Bay Rays starter went 5-1 with a 4.08 ERA in 11 starts after going 6-1 with a 1.78 ERA in 12starts in 2019. If he can stay healthy, Glasnow should have a good chance.

Hyun-Jin Ryu

The 33-year-old went 5-2 with a fine, 2.69 ERA in 12 starts with Toronto last season one year after going 14-5 with a 2.32 ERA in 29 starts for the Dodgers. Yeah, this dude will definitely contend.

Lance Lynn

The 33-year-old went 6-3 with a 3.32 ERA for Texas in 13 starts last season. Lynn will challenge, but he’s a long shot.

Jose Berrios

The 26-year-old went 5-4 with a 4.00 ERA in 12 starts for Minnesota last season. Berrios looks like an easy contender at the very least.

Kenta Maeda

Maeda went a stellar 6-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 11 starts for Minnesota last season. To be honest about it, Maeda and not Berrios, will have the best shot of any Twins pitcher this coming campaign.

Framber Valdez

The 27-year-old Valdez went 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA for Houston last season. Still, I think he needs more time with last season being just his third in the big leagues.

Jesus Luzardo

The 23-year-old went 3-2 with a 4.12 ERA in 12 starts for Oakland last season after posting a 1.50 ERA In six starts in 2019. This young gun is supremely gifted but at least another year or two away from really challenging fr the AL Cy Young.
