MLB News & Rumors: Yankees Back At the Top, Dodgers on A Slump & More

Written by on May 11, 2021

It is still very early in the season, but having said that, we have seen enough games to know which teams have holes that need to be filled. With that in mind, it is no real surprise to see teams making roster moves, while others are looking at the possibility of making a trade to shake things up. We have news and rumors on both of those subjects this week, plus a few other little interesting items that are making the MLB headlines. Without further ado, let’s get to it and talk about what is going on in the world of baseball so you can continue betting against their MLB odds.

Latest 2021 MLB Betting News & Rumors May 11th Edition

The Yankees have recovered from a very poor start to the season and are now back challenging at the top of the AL East. That said, this is a team that expects more given the money that they spend to build their team, so it is perhaps no surprise to learn that they are doing some window shopping. One rumor that is making the rounds would see Kris Bryant leave Chicago to join the Yankees in the summer. The Yankees have a history of making moves for big name players in an effort to shake things up, so seeing them go all in on Bryant would not be a surprise at all.

It looked for a while as though the LA Dodgers were once again going to run away with the NL West, but with just 2 wins in their last 10 games, they have slid down to 3rd in the division. You do get the feeling that they will come out of this slump sooner rather than later, but they could use some help. The good news for the Dodgers is that slugger Cody Bellinger is edging closer to a return to action after suffering a hairline fracture back at the start of April.

The Atlanta Braves are another team that could use some help, and they are turning to a familiar face to help bolster their ailing bullpen. Pitcher Shane Greene will be heading back to the Braves on a 1-year deal that is expected to cost Atlanta about $1.1 million after his contract is prorated for the games already played this season. While it has been a mediocre start to the season for Atlanta, the good news is that the NL East is tight right now, so perhaps some pitching help will move them up the MLB standings.

We are closing out this week with news about another pitcher. This time, it is Jordan Zimmerman, who has announced his retirement after 13 seasons in the league. Zimmerman made his name with the Washington Nationals before making a move to the Detroit Tigers. He was never really able to recapture his form there, as he had issues with a number of different injuries that slowed him down. He signed with the Brewers prior to the start of the season, but he did not make the starting rotation. It always felt like his retirement was imminent when that happened and it is now indeed official.
