The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to close the gap in the NL Wild Card race, and should be able to do that against the hapless San Diego Padres.

After playing some great ball to get back into the playoff picture, the Cardinals have gone winless in their last 3, essentially undoing some of their good work. They are now 4.5 games back in the division race, and are 5 back in the WC. These are the types of series that the Cardinals need to win if they have any shot at making it into the postseason.
