Pacers vs Thunder Series History

First meeting of the season with the Thunder visiting Indianapolis on April 5 near the end of the regular season. The Thunder are 13-16 versus the Pacers during the Oklahoma City era, including 7-6 at home. Last season in OKC, the Thunder rolled to a 126-106 win but both teams are much better this season. Gilgeous-Alexander and Isaiah Joe each scored 23 points for the Thunder and Lu Dort had 22 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. The team set a Thunder record with 41 assists on 47 baskets against Indiana’s zone defense. Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton was out injured and Indiana trailed 17-1 early and never recovered.

Why Bet on Indiana Pacers?

The Pacers were short underdogs Sunday in Orlando but won 111-97 despite big man Jalen Smith and guard Bennedict Mathurin both sitting out. Smith was dealing with an illness so he might play here, but Mathurin is done for the season as he has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, an injury which will require surgery. Mathurin averaged 14.5 points this season and established himself as the leader on the Pacers bench. The second-year player was named the MVP of the 2024 Rising Stars game as part of this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend.

All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton accounted for 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds on Sunday. Haliburton and the Pacers grabbed control of Sunday’s game during the third quarter, outscoring Orlando by a 39-21 margin. Haliburton has tallied 20 or more in two straight and has begun to turn things around after getting off to a slow start after the All-Star break.

Haliburton leads the NBA with an average of 11.7 assists this season. That mark would be the most in a season since John Stockton in 1991-92 (13.7). Haliburton has recorded double-doubles in 37 games. He has 11 games with at least 15 assists, the most in a season in franchise history and most by any player since Russell Westbrook in 2020-21 (14 games).

Pascal Siakam had 20 points and seven boards and has scored at least 20 in five of his last seven games. Mathurin being ruled out for the remainder of the season could give him a slight boost in terms of usage and minutes. Another player who could benefit is Obi Toppin, who played 25 minutes and finished with 17 points and eight rebounds on Sunday.

Myles Turner had 12 points and 20 seems to be a magic number for him as the Pacers are 15-7 this season when Turner scores 20 or more points and 10-4 when he posts a double-double. Turner is now 11 blocks away from breaking Jermaine O’Neal’s franchise record for career blocks (1,245).

The Pacers lead the NBA in scoring this season with an average of 123.1 points this season. They have shot 60 percent or better from the field seven times this season, most in franchise history. Indiana has scored 140 or more points eight times this season (8-0 record) – which is the most in franchise history – 130 or more points 20 times (18-2) and 120 or more 42 times (32-10) through 63 games.

The Pacers currently have seven players who are averaging 10 or more points per game (one is Mathurin) and have received key contributions off the bench from several players all season. The Pacers are 30-11 this season when six or more players score in double figures.

Why Bet on Oklahoma City Thunder?

The Thunder won their third game in a row Sunday, 124-93 over Memphis. Oklahoma City opened up a 22-8 lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back. The Grizzlies were incredibly short-handed due to injury and started their 38th different lineup Sunday.

“Yeah, it’s a challenge,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said. “You’ve got to accept it. You’ve got to accept the reality. I mean, every game’s a different starting lineup, different depth, who’s in and who’s out. It’s a challenge, but these guys go and they compete hard. Trying to find chemistry is definitely a challenge. But we’re putting the work in.”

Rookie Cason Wallace had a career-high 22 points in the win and he stepped up after excellent second-year player and second-leading scorer Jalen Williams left the game with an ankle injury and didn’t return. The injury was an unfortunate freak accident as it was caused by stepping on a cameraman. Williams is averaging 19.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 54/45/82 shooting. His ability to space the floor and offensive presence has been paramount to the Thunder’s ability to win games.

If Williams is forced to miss additional time, Wallace will be a prime candidate to step into a larger role. He’s had a standout rookie season so far, hitting 50.4 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Josh Giddey had 16 points and 10 rebounds and star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 23 points and six assists in just 27 minutes as the Thunder were able to rest him with the game out of hand. SGA’’s five 3-pointers were the most in a game for him this season. Over the past month, Gilgeous-Alexander has been averaging 1.8 3-pointers per game, making them at a 47.9% clip. That was the one area of perceived weakness in his game entering the season.

Oklahoma City ranks top-three in the league in field goal percentage (2nd, 50.1), free throw percentage (1st, 83.3), and three-point percentage (1st, 39.4). No other team ranks in the top five in all three. The Thunder have shot 50 percent or better from the field in 33 games this season, the most games in a single season in team history. Previous high was 29.

Defensively, OKC ranks top-five in the league in both steals (t-2nd, 8.3) and blocks (1st, 6.8) per game. Gilgeous-Alexander leads the league in total steals (131) and steals per game (2.1) while Chet Holmgren ranks fourth in blocks per game (2.5) and third in total blocks (159). Holmgren has three games this season with 7+ blocks, tied for the most in the NBA.
