Don’t look for many starters to play Saturday night – and if any do, very briefly — when the Los Angeles Chargers visit the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason finale for both. The Seahawks are solid favorites on the NFL odds because Chargers QB Justin Herbert for sure won’t play. How to Bet Chargers at Seahawks NFL Odds & TV Info

The Chargers have not played QB Justin Herbert, among other key guys, at all this preseason and won’t here. They are 1-1, winning 13-6 in Week 1 at the Rams and losing 15-10 last weekend at home to the 49ers. While Herbert is in just his second season (making him the least experienced veteran starting QB to not see preseason action) and is entering a brand-new offensive system, the Chargers already know how special the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year is.
Easton Stick got the start for the Chargers last week at QB and was 10 of 14 for 85 yards and a touchdown. Stick was under constant pressure, taking three sacks, but still managed to make a handful of highlight plays. His biggest throw came on a broken play where he was forced to break the pocket. Just before stepping out of bounds, he connected with Josh Palmer for a three-yard score. Chase Daniel played the second half and completed 14 of 21 passes for 60 yards and an interception.
Those two are battling for the backup QB job. Daniel and Stick will both play in Saturday’s game against the Seahawks. It’s one final audition before clubs must cut their rosters down to 53 players next Tuesday. It’s not clear which will start Saturday.
Daniel is a veteran quarterback that has been in the league for years. This is his sixth team he has suited up for and his third go-around with his new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. They have history, and above all else, Daniel knows this playbook.
“I take every year as a competition,” Daniel said. “I feel like I always have the mentality of competing for a spot, that chip on my shoulder. I was undrafted 12 years ago. This is my 13th year and I feel like I still have stuff to prove. For me, this competition is no different. I just go out there and try to play the best football I can. I try to put the team in the best position to succeed when I’m out there.”
No. 2 wideout Mike Williams had been dealing with a hip flexor, with his return to the practice field Wednesday putting him in a position to potentially play in the Chargers’ preseason finale just to get a few snaps in.
While star defensive Joey Bosa has been sidelined from the preseason action, Kyler Fackrell has taken advantage of his playing time – not only making an impact at rushing the passer but defending the run. In two games, Fackrell has amassed six quarterback pressures, three hurries, two QB hits and a sack. Why Bet on Seattle?
This will be the 18th matchup between the Chargers and Seahawks in the preseason, but the first for both teams in Seattle since 2014.
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and several other starters haven’t played in the preseason for Seattle which is 0-2 following losses to Las Vegas and Denver – by a combined score of 50-10. Last week, it was Denver 17, Seattle 0 with three Seahawks turnovers and four injuries before halftime. Alex McGough started at quarterback, but threw two interceptions and also lost a fumble. McGough was 9 of 13 for 91 yards passing. Veteran Sean Mannion took over in the second half and went 13 of 23 for 118 yards.
Against the Broncos, the Seahawks lost two players to season-ending injuries. Receiver John Ursua suffered a torn ACL. Ursua, a seventh-round pick in 2019, spent last year on Seattle’s practice squad after catching one pass as a rookie. With Ursua done for the year, UDFA receiver Cade Johnson will get a chance at cracking the final 53-man roster. Linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven also tore his ACL. The 2019 fifth-round pick was working the Seattle’s starting defense and was expected to begin the regular season as a starter.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll indicated that more of his regulars would get some playing time in the preseason finale. The Seahawks will likely want Wilson to get at least a few series in before Week 1 against the Colts. Offenses are typically vanilla during the preseason, but Shane Waldron will probably want to open up the playbook a little, at least while Wilson and the starters are on the field.
“We’ll go back to a lot of the other guys that haven’t played in the first two games to prepare them for game one of the regular season. That’s been the plan all along,” Carroll said.
Starting left tackle Duane Brown has been holding out as Brown wants a new contract. Brown is entering the final year of his current contract, which will pay him $10 million in base salary. Brown feels he’s earned a new deal, but the team prefers to wait until after this season to address that.
The Seahawks brought back Luke Willson on Tuesday to bolster their tight end depth, but he decided to retire a day later. Still wanting depth at that spot, Seattle signed tight end Ian Bunting on Thursday, a Cal product who went undrafted in 2019. Bunting, who is 6-foot-7, 255 pounds, signed with Chicago as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and was waived prior to the start of the regular season. He later spent time with the Jets and Colts on their practice squads.Game Trends
