NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Betting Update: This Year Candidates

Every season, the NFL hands out a couple of rookie of the year awards. The first is for top offensive rookie. The second is for top defensive rookie. Neither award is more important than the other, but the one most NFL future bet handicappers pay attention to is for offensive rookie of the year. Check out an Offensive Rookie of the Year odds analysis for the top seven choices to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Top 7 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Candidates

  • QB Trevor Lawrence +200

Coach Urban Meyer gave Lawrence the nod to start. So much so that the Jaguars traded Gardner Minshew to Philadelphia for a sixth-round pick. Lawrence has all the tools to be an NFL Hall of Fame player.

Behind a decent offensive line, the former Clemson superstar should excel. The key is for Lawrence to stay healthy. If he does, he will win this award. Nobody knows if he will stay healthy, though. So we can only write that +200 are fair odds, not overlay odds.

Trevor Lawrence Odds: Fair

  • QB Trey Lance +350

As of Aug. 31, Kyle Shanahan has yet to decide if Trey Lance or Jimmy Garoppolo will start Week 1. The smart money is on Jimmy G. getting the start. Because Lance isn’t likely to start unless Garoppolo gets hurt, we can’t say Trey offers overlay or even fair odds. Yes, Jimmy has a tendency to suffer season-ending injuries. But are you willing to back Lance at the current odds in the hope Garoppolo goes down? We’re not.

Trey Lance Odds: Underlay

  • QB Justin Fields +400

Matt Nagy, Chicago’s head coach said Andy Dalton will start the Bears’ first game against the Los Angeles Rams. Nagy wants Fields to spend at least a month on the bench. Eventually, Nagy will start Fields, though. Why? Dalton is a good quarterback but he won’t take Chicago further than a wildcard. The Bears have enough talent to win the NFC North. To beat Green Bay and Minnesota, Fields will have to start under center, which is why Justin’s odds to win the award are fair.

Justin Fields Odds: Fair

  • QB Mac Jones +1000

If you can still back Jones at +1000, jump on those odds. The Patriots have cut Cam Newton and will go with Jones as their QB1. Expect Josh McDaniel to open the playbook in the first week. If Jones responds, he could very well throw for over 3,000 yards and close to 30 TDs. He’d push Lawrence for NFL Offensive Rookie the Year no matter how Trevor performs.

Mac Jones Odds: Overlay

  • WR Ja’Marr Chase +1000

Cincinnati Bengals top draft pick Ja’Marr Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow should make for a successful tandem. Chase has all the skills to be a solid WR1. But there are too many good quarterbacks on the list and that’s why, even at +1000, Ja’Marr is an underlay to win Rookie of the Year. Also, the Bengals play against Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cleveland twice. All three of those teams have very good defenses.

Ja’Marr Chase Odds: Underlay

  • QB Zach Wilson +650

The NFL experts believe former BYU player Zach Wilson is the most pro ready quarterback from April’s draft. Wilson played great during the preseason. Not only that, but Wilson will play behind fantastic left tackle Mekhi Becton and has some talent to throw to in Jamison Crowder, Corey Davis, and Keelan Cole. Wilson, along with Fields once he gets on the field, and Trevor Lawrence make up the top three to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Zach Smith Odds: Overlay

  • TE Kyle Pitts +600

Pitts should have an excellent season. But the Atlanta Falcons’ starting tight-end has a couple of things going against him. First, he plays a position that doesn’t often yield big numbers. Second, he plays on a team with wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Because Julio Jones now plays in Tennessee, Ridley is now quarterback Matt Ryan’s favorite target. Expect at least +1000 before backing Pitts.

Kyle Pitts Odds: Underlay
