Tampa Bay Lightning Vs Florida Panthers
The 2-time defending champions are still in the hunt for a threepeat, with the Tampa Bay Lightning coming from behind to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in 7 games. It’s proof positive that taking out the champion is never an easy task. The Florida Panthers got their series against the Washington Capitals off to a shaky start, going down 2-1 in the series before reeling off 3 straight to win it in 6. I think we are potentially looking at another long series here given that these teams split their 4-game series in the regular season.
St. Louis Blues at Colorado Avalanche
The St. Louis Blues looked to be in trouble in the early going on their Round 1 series versus the Minnesota Wild, falling behind 2-1. Their offense came to life in Game 4 onwards, though, scoring 5 GPG to roar back and win the series in 6 games. The Colorado Avalanche cemented their label as the Stanley Cup favorites by absolutely blowing the Nashville Predators out of the water in a 4-game sweep. This is going to be a tough one for the Blues, who dropped 2 of 3 to the Avalanche in the regular season.
New York Rangers Vs Carolina Hurricanes
It looked to be real doom and gloom for the New York Rangers after going down 3-1 in their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. They came storming back, though, tying the series up before moving on with a thrilling Game 7 win. It was much the same story for the Carolina Hurricanes, who found themselves in a real scrap with the Boston Bruins that took 7 games to decide. The regular season series saw the Hurricanes take 3 of 4 from the Rangers, but they were also great against Boston in the regular season, so who knows how this one will go.
Edmonton Oilers Vs Calgary Flames
You can bet that there are a lot of hockey fans out there excited about the prospect of watching a playoff version of the Battle of Alberta. The Edmonton Oilers were made to work for their Round 1 win over the LA Kings, finally winning it all in Game 7. The Calgary Flames ran into a ridiculously hot goaltender versus the Dallas Stars and were pushed to a Game 7, which they deservedly won in OT. This is probably the best series of the second round and arguably the toughest to predict. The Flames and Oilers split their 4-game regular season series.
