Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma will host the second major of the season this weekend as the golfing world is ready for the PGA Championship.
Southern Hills is a par 70, 7,556-yard course made for long hitters. The greens are small, so this course will play to a big-hitter with a good approach game. There is also a lot of rough on this course, so playing out of that could be a key as well.
One thing we do know about the upcoming weekend is that we will have a new champion crowned. Last year’s winner, Phil Mickelson, won’t be participating this year, as he is feuding with the PGA Tour. That will leave the door open for a plethora of great golfers to win one of golf’s biggest tournaments.
Let’s take a look at some of the favorites, and maybe a surprise pick or two to win this year’s PGA Championship so you can wager against the PGA Championship Odds.
PGA Championship Odds
Jon Rahm +1100
Rahm is the favorite to win the title. Rahm is coming off of a big win in Mexico two weeks ago. He has also fared well in three of the last four PGA Championships. Rahm is one of the longest hitters on the tour. We’ll see if his approach game can find him some nice spots on the greens. If not, he could be in trouble.
Justin Thomas +1200
Thomas won this event in 2017 and tied for sixth in 2018. Since then, he hasn’t fared as well. Thomas has been playing great golf as of late, and we’ll see if he can continue to play well. He has had six top-10 finishes this season. Thomas always seems to step things up in major tournaments, so this could be his time. He putts well, and that will be a huge key to winning at Southern Hills.
Scottie Scheffler +1200
Is there anyone playing better than Scheffler right now? The Masters champion is the top-ranked golfer in the world. Any time that he has played in the PGA Championship, he has finished inside the top 10. He’d love to win this one as well, and we think that he has a great shot of winning his second-straight major.
Viktor Hovland +2500
While his track record in major tournaments isn’t so great, we think that this could be the year that he finally breaks through. In looking at the statistics, his approach game is one of the best on the tour. He also plays well out of the rough. His putter tends to let him down, but if he can catch a few breaks on the greens, he has a great shot at contending for the title.
Cameron Smith +2500
Smith is the best iron player on the tour. He has had a great 2022, but he’s not gotten a lot of notoriety. He struggles with his driver at times, but Southern Hills has some wide fairways, so that could be a huge bonus for Smith. If his approach game is as good as it has been over the past few months, Smith will be a contender.</span
