England will head to the World Cup not only the favorites to win Group B but also one of the chalks to lift the Cup. Roster to roster, nobody has as talented of a crew as England. But the English looked terrible in June during Nations League group play. Will the English step it up in Qatar? Is the U.S. the top play to beat England? See below for updated FIFA World Cup Odds, analysis, and predictions for the best teams in Group B.

World Cup Group B Odds

Favorite: England

The English are so talented that 21 year old Arsenal striker Bukayo Saka may not step onto the pitch. Man United player Raheem Sterling also may not see a lot of playing time.

That’s what happens when Jack Grealish and Harry Kane start upfront. Those two players spearhead a forward room that includes the super quick Phil Foden.

The defenders room is also ridiculous. Man City’s Kyle Walker, United’s Harry McGuire, Walker’s teammate John Stone, and young AC Milan player Fikayo Tomori all play for England.

The midfield? Deep like everywhere else. Mason Mount, Chelsea’s midfielder, puts on an English kit. So does 19 year old Dortmund mid Jude Bellingham and Sky Blues player Kalvin Philips.

In addition, Garth Southgate, England’s head coach and manger, makes more money than any other big time World Cup manager. England is supposed to win Group B.

Upset: Wales

If the Welsh win Group B, it would be more of an upset than if the Americans did. The Welsh boast some decent players like Los Angeles Football Club forward Gareth Bale.

Ben Davies, a Tottenham defender, is Welsh. So is Nice midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Bale, Davies, and Ramsey are as solid as it gets. All three are also north of 30 years old, which is why it would be an upset if Wales was to win Group B.

Dark Horse: USA

It’s easy to be chilly regarding the U.S.’s chances of beating England and winning Group B. The United States doesn’t come close to boasting the talent that Southgate and England has.

America won’t win the World Cup unless something drastic happens. The U.S. will upset some squads, though.

USA boasts 11 UEFA League players on their current roster. The best, no doubt, is Chelsea mid and forward Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic scored a goal in the Champions League Final in 2021. He’ll be one of the top players on the pitch in every U.S. World Cup match, including the one versus England.

Starting goalie Matt Turner plays for Arsenal. Weston McKennie is a Juve mid and Timothy Weah is a Ligue 1 Lille forward.

The United State is deep enough to challenge England. If the U.S. can get to the knockout stage, they could pose issues to their Round of 16 opponent.

Predicted Winner: England | Predicted Second Place: USA

No doubt, the United States has made great strides developing their soccer program. But although the U.S. is good enough to challenge England, they shouldn’t be good enough to win Group B over the English.

The best athletes in England play soccer. That isn’t true in America because soccer isn’t a high-income sport in the states.

USA’s best athletes play American football, basketball, baseball, or golf. That’s where the money is. So although Team USA is a good squad, they aren’t close to the talent level that England possesses.

The English win Group B. Team USA finishes second.
