Ninjas in Pyjamas vs Team Spirit

The third day of ESL Pro League Season 16 Group A matches will see Ninjas in Pyjamas clash with Team Spirit for the first time ever in what promises to be an exciting affair. Perhaps not so much because these are two of the strongest teams at the tournament, though.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have enough talent to be one of the top teams in the world, and they might achieve that status in the future. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking too good for the Swedes.

Over the last two months, Ninjas in Pyjamas have been largely disappointing with their showings. In July, they attended IEM Cologne, where NiP crashed out in seventh- eighth place, and they were just as disappointing at BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2022 last week.

Although NiP had their moments of greatness at BLAST Premier, they ended up in fourth-sixth place, with defeats against Astralis and Team Liquid. Moreover, NiP got off to a terrible start to their ESL Pro League Season 16 campaign with a 0-2 defeat against Fnatic.

Admittedly, Team Spirit have also started their ESL Pro League Season 16 campaign with a 0-2 defeat against Natus Vincere, but they still won 20 rounds across the two maps, which is relatively solid considering NaVi are one of the top teams in the world.

The esports betting sites have priced Team Spirit as +110 underdogs for this bout which doesn’t seem fair. On paper, NiP are stronger, but due to their poor form, the odds should be the other way around. Team Spirit at even money or better is an obvious choice.

Prediction: Team Spirit to win

Team Vitality vs Fnatic

Fnatic have showcased their new roster on Wednesday when they demolished Ninjas in Pyjamas 16-6, 16-6, proving themselves as a proper top-tier team. Admittedly, Ninjas in Pyjamas are in terrible form, so we wouldn’t overreact to Fnatic’s success on the day, but they still won, dropping only 12 rounds across the series, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Natus Vincere kicked off their ESL Pro League Season 16 campaign the best way possible by sweeping Team Spirit 2-0. Of course, beating Spirit knowing that they’ve recently lost their best player isn’t a massive achievement, but NaVi looked good, so we have nothing to complain about.

On paper, Natus Vincere look like a significantly stronger team than Fnatic, and they might be. But the offered betting odds seem to underestimate the Black & Orange, who have proven to have a solid roster capable of competing at the highest level.

Even though NaVi should win, there is a good chance Fnatic can steal one map and make the series a bit more interesting. Take Fnatic with a map handicap at even money or better.

Prediction: Fnatic +1.5 maps
