PGA Tour 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship Betting Odds, Favorites to Win, and Analysis

The FedEx Cup Playoffs begin this week with the top 70 players in the standings teeing up at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

The four-day, individual stroke play event will feature no cut, and the top 50 finishers will move on to next week’s BMW Championship. The first round of the tournament begins on Thursday, August 10th, with the event concluding on Sunday, August 13th.

The defending champion of the event is Will Zalatoris, who won’t be back to defend his title as he recovers from an injury that has kept him sidelined for the majority of 2023. Zalatoris picked up his first PGA Tour win by knocking off Sepp Straka in a playoff. He finished the tournament with a score of 265 (15-under).

This season’s playoffs will be the first time the opening field has been reduced from 125 players to just 70. Additionally, the prize money has increased from a $15 million dollar purse last season to $20 million this year, with $3.6 million going to the winner.

That said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming FedEx St. Jude Championship tournament so you can bet against the PGA betting lines.

Thursday, August 10th – Sunday August 13th, 2023
TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee

TPC Southwind

TPC Southwind was established in 1988 under the design of Ron Prichard, along with player input from Fuzzy Zoeller and Hubert Green. The par-70 layout stretches just over 7,200 yards and statistically ranks as one of the most challenging courses on the PGA schedule.

The venue is run by the PGA Tour as part of the Tournament Players Club and has hosted a professional event since 1989. Hole #14 is a notable par three that can measure up to 239 yards from the back tees, making the hole one of the most difficult par 3s the players will face this season.

The Field

The field is stacked with all 70 of the top players in the FedEx Cup Standings expected to tee it up this week. Headlining the field are the top players in the world, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm, who haven’t been in action since last month’s Open Championship. McIlroy is the defending FedEx Cup champion and a three-time winner of the season-long title.

Three of this year’s major winners are in action this week, led by Rahm (The Masters), Wyndham Clark (U.S. Open), and Brian Harman (Open Championship). Seven players in this week’s field have won multiple times on tour this year.

There are six PGA Tour rookies that punched their ticket to the postseason, including the last man in the field, Ben Griffin. Griffin edged former FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas by only nine points for the last spot.
