Three grade 1 races, the Saratoga Derby, the Test, and the Whitney, take place at Saratoga on Saturday.

The Saratoga Oaks could attract a full field. Trainer Joseph P. O’Brien plans on saddling two, American Sonja and Caroline Street.

Jonathan Thomas will have a runner in Selenaia. Allamericanbeauty goes for Claude “Shug” McGaughey. Graham Motion trained Speirling Beag and Honor D Lady from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn will also attract action. So will Papilio from the Mark Casse barn.

National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame | Grade 2

1 mile turf – 3 year olds

Saratoga Race Course, Saratoga Springs, New York

Chad Brown puts the saddle on possible chalk Carl Speckler. Carl hasn’t raced since running up the track in the Grade 2 American Turf on the Kentucky Derby undercard as the favorite.

Brown also plans running Appraise, a last out allowance winner. Todd Pletcher trained Bat Flip and Wadsworth from the Brad Cox barn will also go. General Jim, trained by Shug McGaughey, will look to bounce back after a sixth place finish in the Woody Stephens.

Chad Brown saddles Program Training. The 3 year old filly is 2-0 after breaking her maiden at first asking and winning an allowance. Program Training produced triple digit speed figs in both wins.

Todd Pletcher trained Far Bridge will push Program Training for favoritism. Far Bridge won the Grade 1 Belmont Derby in the last.

Cristophe Clement trained Mondego and Battle of Normandy from Shug’s barn will also attract action. Jonathan Thomas puts the saddle on Truly Quality, yet another with a chance.

Todd Pletcher gave the 1 1/16 mile Grade 1 Acorn a shot with Munnys Gold. The filly didn’t appreciate the added distance. Munnys Gold should run much better in the 7 furlong Test on Saturday.

Pretty Mischievous, the Acorn winner, will go off the chalk. The Acorn victory was the second straight after Pretty Mischievous pulled off the Kentucky Oaks upset in May.

Mike McCarthy trained Clearly Unhinged and Dorth Vader from the Michael Yates barn will also attract action. Dorth Vader finished second behind Pretty Mischievous in the Acorn.

Bill Mott puts the saddle on Cody’s Wish. If Cody handles the distance, Mott will run the winner of eight straight, including four straight grade 1s, in this fall’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Because of Cody’s presence, connections for just four other horses have confirmed. Chad Brown will run Zandon. Todd Pletcher goes with Charge It. Kenny McPeek races the other confirmed runner, Smile Happy.
