Top Stakes to Bet On: G3 La Canada, Busanda Stakes & 4 Other Great Races

Only one graded race happens this weekend. But just because the La Canada is the only graded race on the schedule, it doesn’t mean this Saturday lacks stakes races. The Busanda is a key early 3-year-old filly event for runners pointing towards the Kentucky Oaks. The Fifth Season at Oaklawn offers a much higher purse than a lot of graded stakes races. Horse Racing Odds, Picks, and Betting Analysis for Saturday | Jan. 14th Edition

Aqueduct | Saturday, Jan. 14

  • Busanda Stakes – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies

Only five runners have confirmed for the Busanda Stakes. No doubt, the horse that will attract the most action is Chad Brown trained Occult. The Into Mischief sired runner finished fourth in her debut.

Chad stretched her out to a mile where she won. She has the makings of a nice filly. So Occult will attract action. Other runners include Sweetest Princess, Affirmative Lady, and a pair from the Todd Pletcher barn, Aniston and Gambling Girl.

Tampa Bay Downs | Saturday, Jan. 14

  • Pasco Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds

At least eight runners will go in the Pasco Stakes. Among the eight, Grade 3 Nassau winner Champions Dream should attract the most action. The Danny Gargan trained colt could improve off the Nassau victory.

Ramon Minguet Zydeceaux will get a few looks. The gelding won his last race and the race was at this distance. Mikey Bananas, Loco Abarrio, Handsome Playboy, Freedom Road, Call Me Ice Man, and Armstrong may also run.

  • Gasparilla Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – 3 year old fillies

This year’s Gasparilla Stakes appears to be wide-open. Michael Yates trained Dorth Vader won the Sandpiper in her last, which is why she may go off the chalk.

Charlie’s Wish, Awesome Pic, Cora Pearl, Dreaming of Snow, Yes Day, and Tell Me When should also enter the starting gate. Handicap every entrant before deciding on your win bet.

Gulfstream Park | Saturday, Jan. 14

  • Sunshine Filly & Mare Turf – 1 mile turf – 4 year old fillies & mares

Todd Pletcher saddles two-time winner Avow. The daughter of Arrogate steps onto the grass for the first time. Because Todd trains her, Avow will attract money.

If only because Joel Rosario ride, Sweet Dani Girl projects as the favorite. Dani finished fifth in her last, the Grade 2 Eight Belles. Sugar Fix, Sonar, Lookinglikeaqueen, and Mona Stella should also run.

Oaklawn Park | Saturday, Jan. 14

  • Fifth Season Stakes – 1 mile dirt – 4 year olds & up

Rated R Superstar loves Oaklawn Park. The Federico Villafranco runner won the Grade 3 Essex Handicap over Oaklawn’s dirt last year. Superstar figures to go off the chalk on Saturday.

Silver Prospector, Seize The Night, and Runnin’ Ray will also attract action. So will King Fury, Bal Harbour, and Ginobili. Hello Hot Rod should end up the top longshot play.

Santa Anita Park | Saturday, Jan. 14

  • Grade 3 La Canada Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 4 year old fillies & mares

Right now, ten runners are probable for the Grade 3 La Canada. Bob Baffert’s triumvirate of Under The Stars, Gandora, and Midnight Memories will garner the most betting dollars.

Horseplayers are also going to back Tiz An Edventure from the Jack Steiner barn and John Sadler trained Kirstenbosch. Jonathan Wong trained Clockstrikestwelve could be the best overlay choice. Others may enter. So keep your eyes open later in the week for the La Canada draw.
