Inside Information Stakes | Grade 2

7 furlongs dirt – 4 year old fillies and mares
Saturday, January 27, 2024
Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. has a strong hand. Saffie saddles possible chalk Intrepid Daydream, which finished second in the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl in the last. Joseph Jr. will also put the bridle on Sugar Swirl fifth place finisher Bluefield.

Chad Brown has a contender in Gerrymander. Oliva North finished third in the Sugar Swirl. The Jorge Delgado trained runner fits with the likely field. Two Item Saver, She’s Outta Here, and Maryquitecontrary are three others that could attract action.

Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf | Grade 2

1 1/16 miles turf – 4 year old fillies and mares
Saturday, January 27, 2024
Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida

Chad Brown trained Chili Flag is likely to go off the favorite. Brown puts Flavien Prat aboard the Forever Together listed stakes winner.

Horseplayers will bet Cairo Consort. Todd Pletcher trains. Cairo Consort should improve off the fourth place finish in the Tropical Oaks in the last.

Accomplished Girl, a Saffie Joseph trained runner, and Star Fortress from the Cherie Devaux barn, can win. Full Court Felicia, the always dangerous Fluffy Socks, Queen Goddess, Mission of Joy, and Ruby Nell make the Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf a challenging to handicap race.

Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational | Grade 1

1 1/8 miles turf – 4 year olds & up
Saturday, January 27, 2024
Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida

The top finishers in the Grade 2 Hill Prince, Integration and I’m Very Busy, both have a chance. Integration hails from the Shug McGaughey barn and Chad Brown puts the saddle on I’m Very Busy.

Atone is an attractive price play. The Mike Maker trained runner finished eighth in the Turf Mile in the last. Atone is better than the finish.

Todd Pletcher trained Jerry the Nipper, Grade 1 Hollywood Derby finisher Webslinger, and Grade 2 Ft Lauderdale finisher Kingmax should attract betting dollars. Warm Heart, third in the Grade 1 Hong Kong Vase in the last, will go off the chalk.

Pegasus World Cup | Grade 1

1 1/8 miles dirt – 4 year olds & up
Saturday, January 27, 2024
Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida

Bob Baffert’s 2023 Preakness winner, National Treasure, is the 9-to-5 morning line chalk. National Treasure will try to wire the field, which might be difficult to accomplish because Brad Cox trained First Mission, the 7-to-2 second choice, breaks next door to National Treasure.

Longshots with a chance include Grade 3 Harland’s Holiday winner O’Connor, Hoist the Gold, which won the Grade 2 Cigar Mile in the last, and Todd Pletcher trained Dynamic One. Skippylongstocking finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Give Skippy a shot if you believe post position won’t kill the Saffie Joseph Jr. trained equine’s chances.

San Pasqual Handicap | Grade 2

1 1/8 miles dirt – 4 year olds & up
Saturday, January 27, 2024
Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, California

Finding the winner in this Saturday’s San Pasqual won’t be easy. Newgrange, Stilleto Boy, Mr. Fisk, Wizard of Westwood, Mixto, Salesman, and Subsandor should all line up at the gate.

Newgrange, the Grade 2 San Antonio winner, will likely break from the gate the chalk. Stilleto Boy has a decent fan base. Mixto finished second in the San Antonio. So those two will go off second and third choice.

A top contender is Richard Mandella trained Salesman. The Grade 2 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance winner looks like a potential monster. Salesman could offer overlay odds and warrants a big look if Mandella decides to go with the Dubawi sired runner.

Horse Racing Odds, Picks, and Betting Analysis plus 2023 Pegasus World Cup

Oaklawn Park | Saturday, Jan. 28

Grade 3 Southwest Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year olds

Most early entrants for the Grade 3 Southwest hail from either the Kenny McPeek or the Brad Cox barns. McPeek saddles Sun Thunder and Frosted Departure.

Cox is likely to saddle three, Jace’s Road, Hit Show, and Corona Bolt. Other entrants include Protégé from the Ron Moquett barn, and D. Wayne Lukas trained Bourbon Bash.

Santa Anita Park | Saturday, Jan. 28

Grade 3 Las Virgenes – 1 mile dirt – 3 year old fillies

Trainers Doug O’Neil and Bob Baffert have strong hands. O’Neil plans on running three in the Las Virgenes: Satin Doll, Pride of the Nile, and Broadway Girls.

Baffert will run a couple, Fast And Shiny and Faiza. Richard Mandella plans on running Coffee in Bed and Ice Dancing. The favorite could end up Mike McCarthy trained Uncontrollable.

Gulfstream Park | Saturday, Jan. 28

Grade 3 Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf – 1 1/16 miles turf – 4 year olds and up

Wakanaka, Sweet Enough, Shantisara, and Queen Goddess headline what promises to be a terrific running of the Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf.

Other entrants include Perseverancia, Mona Stella and Lady Rockstar. Albert Stall trained Dalika and Artie’s Princess from the Saffie Joseph barn will attract action.

Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational – 1 1/8 miles turf – 4 year olds and up

Todd Pletcher trained Wit and Mark Casse trained Who’s The Star should attract the most action. Horseplayers also project to back Ivar, who finished fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in the last, Master Piece, and Lady Speightspere. City Man and Speaking Scout will also get some play.

Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup – 1 1/18 miles dirt – 4 year olds and up

No doubt, this is one of the most competitive runnings of the Pegasus World Cup in history. Most believe morning line favoritism will fall on Saffie Joseph Jr. trained White Abbario.

Abbario absolutely loves Gulfstream Park. Second choice could be west coast invader Stilleto Boy. Skippylongstocking, Simplification, Ridin With Biden, and Proxy will attract action.

Santa Anita Park | Sunday, Jan. 29

Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds

Like in most runnings of the San Vicente, trainer Bob Baffert has the strongest hand. Bob puts the saddle on for sure chalk Speed Boat Beach, which finished first in the Grade 3 Cecille B. DeMille in his last. If Speed Boat Beach doesn’t go off the chalk, Havnameltdown or Nullarbor, a couple of other Baffert runners, will.

Man Child and Helladic, both from the Ryan Hanson barn, will attract some dollars. Baffert may run five more: Arabian Lion, Faustin, Fort Warren, Gilmore, and Hard to Figure.

2022 Top Stakes Races to Bet On: Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 29

Gulfstream Park – Saturday, Jan. 29

Grade 2 Inside Information – 7 furlongs dirt – fillies and mares 4 and up

Ian Wilkes trained Four Graces returns to the races after a second-place finish in an allowance in early January. Wilkes uses allowance races to get his horses fit for much bigger prizes. So don’t discount Four Graces’ chances just because she didn’t win the allowance and this is a Grade 2. Starship Nala, who beat Four Graces in the allowance, Pacific Gale, Crumb Bun, and likely chalk Dance d’Oro will also run.

Grade 3 Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf – 1 1/16 miles turf – fillies and mares 4 and up

First place Grade 1 Matriarch winner Regal Glory resumes her rivalry with third place Matriarch finisher Princess Grace. Those two should demand most of the action. Todd Pletcher trained Sweet Melania and Grade 1 American Oaks second place finisher Nicest should also enter the starting gate. Top underdogs include Summer in Saratoga from the Joe Sharp barn, and Bodhicitta, trained by Richard Baltas.

Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational – 1 1/8 miles turf – 4 and up

2021 winner Colonel Liam returns to defend his title. Liam finished eighth in the Manhattan Stakes in his last. The Todd Pletcher trainee returns to a much better distance. He should be tough to beat. Other to consider include Chad Brown trained Sacred Life and Bob and Jackie, who won the Grade 2 San Gabriel in his last.

Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 4 and up

Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Knicks Go faces off against Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Life Is Good in one of the most anticipated races of the year. Both are confirmed front runners, which is why 2019 Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston figure to attract action. The Mark Casse trainee heads into this in excellent form. If you don’t like either favorite, consider backing Sir Winston. The rest of the field looks in over their heads.

Santa Anita Park – Saturday, Jan. 29

Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – 3-year-olds

Both of the top two finishers in the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity figure to run in the San Vicente. Doug O’Neil trained Slow Down Andy won the Los Al Futurity while highly regarded Bob Baffert trained Messier finished second. Andy and Messier will be tough to beat. The field is loaded with talent, though, including Doppelganger, another from the Baffert barn, and American Pharoah sired Forbidden Kingdom. Handicap the entire race before settling on the winner.

Oaklawn Park – Saturday, Jan. 29

Grade 3 Southwest Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 3-year-olds

The top 3-year-old Derby prep on Saturday takes place at Oaklawn Park. The Southwest Stakes often produces an early Derby favorite. This year’s Southwest includes Chasing Time trained by Steve Asmussen, Kenny McPeek trained Dash Attack, and Newgrange from the Bob Baffert barn. Newgrange, a Violence sired runner, won the Grade 3 Sham in his last. Brad Cox will hope highly touted Vivar turns around his form. The Southwest projects as one of the weekend’s most competitive events. So get your handicapping pen ready.
