2022 Top Stakes to Bet On: G3 River City, 5 Other Races for the Weekend

A week after Breeders’ Cup is always light on stakes action. A single graded race happens in the U.S. this weekend, the Grade 3 River City. But although the best horses in America threw down this past weekend, it doesn’t mean there is no stakes action happening on Saturday and Sunday. Check out top plays and Horse Racing Odds for the Top Stakes Races of the Week from Saturday, November 12nd to Sunday, November 13th. Horse Racing Odds, Picks, and Betting Analysis | November 7th Edition

Aqueduct | Saturday, Nov. 12

  • Artie Schiller Stakes – 1 mile turf – 3 year olds & up

In 2019, Curlin’s Honor finished ahead of Caribou Club with Frontier Market in third. Then in 2020, Therapist beat Valid Point and Chad Brown trained Delaware.

Last year, Mandate beat Tell Your Daddy and Flavius. Tell Your Daddy hasn’t raced since March. But he remains active. So there’s a chance the second place finisher shows up in this. Flavius could also run.

Aqueduct | Sunday, Nov. 13

  • Winter Memories Stakes – 1 1/16 miles turf – 3 year old fillies & up

The best 3 year old and up grass runners on this continent who weren’t good enough to run in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf last week, could end up running in this.

In 2021, Plum Ali took the top prize. Now a 4-year-old filly, trainer Cristophe Clement may try for the Winter Memories repeat with Plum Ali. Miss Dracary’s and White Frost, the third place and second place finishers from last year, may also go.

Churchill Downs | Sunday, Nov. 13

  • Bet on Sunshine Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds & up

In the mid 1990’s to early 2000’s, Bet On Sunshine was one of the best sprinters in North America. He won races at Belmont, Churchill, Arlington, Hollywood Park, and Keeneland.

In 2019, Recruiting Ready, Do Share, and Wilbo won this. After skipping 2020 due to the pandemic, Churchill ran the Bet On Sunshine last year. Necker, Mucho, and Sir Alfred James took the top prize in 2021.

  • Dream Supreme Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds & up fillies & mares

Like Bet On Sunshine, Dream Supreme was a fantastic sprinter in the late 1990s and early 2000s. When it comes to this year’s Dream Supreme Stakes, Mia Mischief, who won the race in 2019, and Bell’s the One, who won the race in 2021, could end up knocking heads.

Frank’s Rockette, who finished third to Bell’s the One in last year’s event, finished eleventh in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint this past Saturday.

  • Grade 3 River City – 1 1/8 miles turf – 3 year olds & up

One thing is for certain. 8-year-old gelding Mr. Misunderstood won’t go for the repeat. The Brad Cox trained runner is retired.

Without Mr. Misunderstood taking to the Churchill grass. 2021 runner-up Cullum Road,  or third place finisher Admissions Office, could end up the chalk if they run. The River City may also attract one or two Chad Brown runners from New York who don’t go in the Artie Schiller on Saturday.

Del Mar | Sunday, Nov. 13

  • Betty Grable Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds & up fillies & mares

Bella Vita won this last yar. The now 5-year-old mare should show up in the starting gate for the repeat try.

Third place finisher from last year, Big Sweep, may also run. In addition, fillies and mares who didn’t make the trip to Keeneland and who didn’t run at the short Santa Anita fall meet figure to enter.
