Why Bet on Los Angeles?

Chris Taylor was not in Tuesday’s starting lineup. On Monday, Taylor received his first start since coming off the injured list Friday. The super-utility man produced the biggest hit of the contest Monday against Baltimore, belting a sixth-inning grand slam that turned a two-run Dodgers deficit into a two-run lead. Taylor started at shortstop before moving to left field late in the game, but Miguel Rojas started at shortstop Tuesday while David Peralta was in left field.

Freddie Freeman continues to make a case for another MVP Award as he was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Monday’s victory over the Orioles. He’s collected multiple hits in seven of his last 17 games, going 23-for-70 (.329) during that span. The veteran slugger is up to 52 extra-base hits and 74 runs scored with a .952 OPS through 426 plate appearances as of Tuesday.

It’s lefty Julio Urias on the mound here. Urias (7-5, 4.35 ERA) picked up the win in last Friday’s 6-0 victory over the Mets, giving up one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven. Urias nearly unraveled in the first inning. Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the frame with a drive to right-center field that was initially ruled a homer, but upon review it was determined to have hit the top of the padded wall and caromed back into play. Pete Alonso then drew a two-out walk, but Urias shut the door on the rally and proceeded to baffle Mets hitters the rest of the way.

Urias has tossed back-to-back quality starts on either side of the All-Star break: “I haven’t done a good job of attacking and throwing first-pitch strikes. I think I’ve missed that this season and I think these last two starts, I’ve made a lot of adjustments to fix that. … I watched [Brandon Nimmo’s leadoff double] on video and you can honestly see that I didn’t make my adjustment. [From] then, you could see that I made those adjustments and something clicked, to where I feel like myself on top of the mound.”

Urias has a 10.38 ERA and no decisions in 4.1 career innings vs. Baltimore.

Why Bet on Baltimore?

The Orioles have two winning streaks of at least seven games this year; Atlanta (4x) and Tampa Bay (2x) are the only other teams with multiple win streaks of at least seven games this season. Baltimore’s 33 comeback wins rank tied with Cincinnati for the most in MLB this year and their 69 come-from-behind victories since the start of 2022 are second behind the LA Dodgers (70) for the most in MLB.

Will the Orioles have starting outfielder Cedric Mullins and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle for this one? Neither started Tuesday’s game. Mountcastle has now started just two of six games since returning from the injured list and appears to have lost his primary first base job to Ryan O’Hearn. Mullins has missed three straight with a quad injury. Aaron Hicks started in center field for Baltimore on Tuesday in place of Mullins again.

Anthony Santander had his eight-game hitting streak snapped in Monday’s loss but has two multi-homer games this year and his 12 career multi-homer games are tied for ninth-most in O’s history (since 1954).

Reliever Cionel Pérez was activated from the 15-day injured list before Tuesday’s game following a two-week absence due to left forearm soreness. The 27-year-old southpaw holds a 4.45 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 22/16 K/BB ratio across 30 1/3 innings (33 appearances) this season.

It’s Dean Kremer on the mound Wednesday, his 20th start of the season, 11th at home, and first career start against the Dodgers. Kremer (10-4) picked up the win last Friday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings in a 5-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out eight. The right-hander generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 97 pitches en route to his ninth quality start of the year. In eight starts since the beginning of June he’s posted a 4.60 ERA and 2.2 HR/9, but also a 1.18 WHIP and 52:10 K:BB through 45 innings.

In nine career Interleague starts, Kremer owns a 7-2 record with a 3.58 ERA (20 ER/50.1 IP) and five quality starts. He has a 5-2 record with a 5.07 ERA (31 ER/55.0 IP) in 10 assignments at Oriole Park this season. Kremer works with a deep six-pitch repertoire, consisting of a four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, cutter, slider, curveball, and changeup. He relies primarily on his fastballs and his cutter, throwing either a fastball or cutter 72.3% of the time this season.
