MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Avoid in Week 11

MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Avoid in Week 11

We are now very close to the midway point of the MLB season, and it has become clear which teams are likely to be in the World Series conversation. We also know the teams that are little more than a punching bag at this point, but even with that knowledge, picking winners is still never easy. Every pitcher in the league, regardless of the team they play on, is in the MLB for a reason, which means that those with the poorer stats can still come out and pitch a gem. On the flipside, hot pitchers can have off days. Figuring out when those might happen can help you win, so with that in mind, let’s take a look at the pitchers we will be avoiding in Week 11 to consider in your MLB betting.

Dean Kremer
Baltimore Orioles

Quite often, I will go with a pitcher to avoid despite the fact that their overall numbers are not entirely bad. It is more to do with recent form and the pitching matchup they have ahead of them. That is very much the case with Kremer, who is having a very decent season for the Orioles, going 6-3 with a 4.89 ERA. What makes me nervous about starting him this week is that he has looked pretty average in 2 of his last 3 starts, including his last outing, where he gave up 6 earned runs in 5 innings in a 10-2 loss to the Brewers. That’s enough to put him on my avoid list.

Ranger Suarez
Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies have been hovering around the .500 mark for the majority of the season and are currently 2 games below that mark heading into Week 11. They will start the week with a very tough road trip to Arizona and will have Suarez in the starting role on Wednesday night. Suarez has been very good of late, surrendering just 2 ER in his last 2 starts, where he pitched a total of 13 innings. There is a lot to like right now, but what I don’t like is this matchup, as I think he could be in trouble in the desert on Wednesday night. I’m choosing to avoid him in this outing.

Paul Blackburn
Oakland A’s

It wouldn’t be a sit them week without adding an Oakland pitcher into the mix, as this team has been just that bad this season as they sit in limbo waiting for a move to Las Vegas. They have a home stand coming later in the week, but the fact that it’s the Tampa Bay Rays coming to town is a reason for total pessimism. Blackburn will be on the mound for the Thursday game against the Rays, and while the A’s have won in 2 of his 3 starts this season, I think there is a good chance he gets the hook early in this one.

Tanner Houck
Boston Red Sox

Jumping ahead to Friday night, we have an iconic series set to go, with the Yankees and Red Sox once again set to do battle. The pitching matchup for this one is not what you would call a sparkling affair, but I do think that the Yankees have a bit of an edge. Boston has not had a ton of success with Houck on the mound and are on a run of 6 straight losses in the games that he has started. Overall, Houck is sitting at 3-6 with a 5.23 ERA, none of which are numbers that inspire much in the way of confidence.
