The trade deadline has passed, and we are now heading down the homestretch of the regular season in the MLB. As expected, we saw a few big-name pitchers move to a new address, which could prove to be good news for those guys, as most are leaving to be part of a contending team. It is going to be interesting to see what sort of impact these trades end up making, but we will find that out soon enough. For now, our focus is on the week ahead and the starting pitchers who could make an immediate impact. Scherzer was one of the big names on the move at the trade deadline, leaving behind the Mets to head to the Rangers, who are very much in the playoff picture. Scherzer started with a win in his opening game with his new teams and will be on the mound again on Tuesday night to face the struggling Oakland A’s. This seems like a matchup perfectly suited to Scherzer as he looks for win #11 on the season. I would be very surprised if he did not get that W, while also upping his strikeout tally in the process.

If there is a better player in the MLB right now other than Ohtani, it’s hard to imagine who it might be. The question now is whether the Angels will be able to hold onto him after this season is said and done, as this is a player who wants to win championships, which is something that looks unlikely for the Angels. At this stage in the season, Ohtani is sitting at 9-5 with an ERA of 3.32. The Angels lost in his last start, but in the game before that one, Ohtani pitched the full 9 innings and surrendered just 1 run. Look for another dominant performance against the Giants on Wednesday.

While the NL East certainly looks to be heading the way of the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies are still very much in the Wild Card picture. They will have a very winnable series against the Nationals later this week, with Nola set to get the start on Thursday night. He has been a little up and down this season, posting a 9-8 record and an ERA of 4.58. Nola has lost in each of his last 2 starts, but this seems like the perfect matchup to get him out of that slump. Look for the Phillies to win and Nola to put in a good performance against the Nats on Thursday.

Milwaukee Brewers | #39

The NL Central is very much up for grabs, which should make the final couple of months of the season a lot of fun to watch. Right now, it is the Brewers who have the lead in the division, but it is tight. Friday night will see Milwaukee hit the road to face the Chicago White Sox, with Corbin Burnes set to get the start in that one. He is 9-6 on the season with a 3.42 ERA.
