We are heading down the home stretch in the MLB regular season, and while some teams are already a lock for the playoffs, there are still some spots up for grabs. A couple of divisions are still far from decided, while the battle for Wild Card places is likely to go all the way down to the wire. The pressure is very much on for the teams still in the hunt for a postseason spot, with much of that pressure falling on the shoulders of the starting pitchers of those squads. The pitchers who are able to handle that pressure might well prove to be the difference between a team making it in or being forced to sit out the playoffs. Let’s look ahead to the next few days and pick out some pitchers we like to shine to win big with the MLB betting odds.

The Braves are one team that don’t really need to worry about the postseason, as they have all but clinched the NL East. In fact, they come into this week with a 12 ½ game lead in the division and a team that looks set to make a deep run. The pitching has been outstanding for the Braves all season long, with Charlie Morton playing his part. He has gone 12-10 this season with an ERA of 3.54, but he appears to be getting stronger as the season progresses. In fact, he has not surrendered a run in his last 2 starts, in which he pitched 11 full innings.

Clayton Kershaw

Los Angeles Dodgers | #22
Bats: Left / Throws: Left

The Dodgers are another team that has, unsurprisingly, opened up a massive lead in their division. It can be tough to keep playing at such a high level when a playoff spot is all but assured, but players know that going into the postseason on a good run of form is important. The Dodgers will be in Cleveland for a series in the early part of the week, with Kershaw set to take the mound on Wednesday night. He has gone 6-3 in road games this season, posting an ERA of 3.09 in those outings. Look for another W coming his way on Wednesday night.

Toronto Blue Jays | #17

As always, it is rather slim pickings on Thursday night, and I will admit that this pick is a bit of a risk. The Blue Jays have been up and down all season long, so you never really know what to expect from them on any given night. Berrios comes into this week with a 9-8 record and an ERA of 3.39, plus the Jays have lost in each of his last 2 starts. You can see from that why I see this as a bit of a risky pick. That does not tell the whole story, though, as he was unfortunate in his last start, giving up 0 ER in 5.2 innings in what ended up being a 1-0 loss. If he pitches like that again on Thursday, look for the Jays to win.

Framber Valdez

Houston Astros | #59
Bats: Right / Throws: Left

Some will look at this as a disappointing season for the Astros, but as we come down the stretch, they are still in the hunt for the division, sitting a game and a half back of the Rangers. They have a winnable weekend series coming up against the Detroit Tigers, with Valdez set to get the start on Friday night. He is coming off an absolute nightmare evening in his last outing and has now lost 2 in a row, but I have a feeling he is going to bounce back this week.
