NBA Live Betting: Bucks vs Warriors, considering Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury

The second game of an ESPN NBA doubleheader on Wednesday hopefully will feature a matchup of former league MVPs in Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Golden State’s Steph Curry from San Francisco. The NBA odds will be largely determined on whether Giannis plays off a minor injury after missing the Bucks’ previous game.

Bucks vs Warriors First Meeting

The Bucks go for the season sweep as they beat visiting Golden State 129-118 on Jan. 13. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 33 points, Damian Lillard contributed 27 points and Khris Middleton added 24, including 13 in the fourth quarter, and also had 10 assists. Milwaukee sank 19 of 27 shots (70%) in the final period and outscored the Warriors 46-37. The Warriors were without Steph Curry and Draymond Green but both should play this time. Jonathan Kuminga finished with 28 points and Brandin Podziemski had 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting while adding 10 assists. The Warriors have won the past three at home in the series.

Why Bet on Milwaukee Bucks?

The Bucks played without Giannis Antetokounmpo on Monday (he likely will play Wednesday) due to left Achilles tendinitis as well as fellow starter Khris Middleton yet still rallied to beat the Clippers 113-106 for a sixth straight win. The Bucks are unbeaten since the All-Star break, an It’s an impressive turnaround for a team that entered the break 3-7 in new coach Doc Rivers‘ first 10 games.

“I think it just shows who we’re becoming,” said Damian Lillard, who played 42 minutes and had 41 points, four rebounds and four assists. With Antetokounmpo sidelined, the Bucks needed even more production from Lillard than usual. The eight-time All-Star answered the call, producing his third 40-point game of the season. The Bucks are 4-0 when he scores 40, 14-1 when he scores 30 and 25-3 when Lillard scores at least 25. Lillard is seventh in the East in scoring (24.5 ppg) and fifth in assists (6.7 apg).

Bobby Portis contributed 28 points and 16 rebounds off the bench. Over his last 10 appearances, he’s averaging 16.7 points and 7.9 rebounds across 24.1 minutes per game. The Bucks outscored the Clippers, 23-10, in the last five minutes to win and the Clippers were on the second-game of a back-to-back. In the final four minutes, Portis had a 25-foot jump shot, two free throws, a hook shot and a three-pointer to pull the Bucks ahead safely. He also had five rebounds in that span. He became the first NBA player this season to have at least 25 points and 15 rebounds while coming off the bench.

“The Freak is out … Giannis is out, I just feel like it is one of those times for me to just step up and be a little more aggressive,” said Portis, who has scored in double figures in 11 straight games. That’s tied for the fourth-longest streak of his career.

Patrick Beverley drew a spot start against his former Clippers team and had 12 points and nine rebounds. Brook Lopez had just six points and has been stuck in a slump lately, averaging 9.7 points on 38.8 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc over his last 10 outings.

Milwaukee’s six-game winning streak is its second-longest of the season behind seven in a row from Dec. 11-23. Including Monday’s win, the Bucks have held all six of their opponents in the streak below 110 points and under 100 in four of the six. Milwaukee foes are averaging a league-low 98.7 ppg on a league-low 41.3% shooting since the All-Star break with the Bucks owning the top defensive rating in the NBA at 102.6.

A win Wednesday would give the Bucks their first series sweep over the Warriors since the 2012-13 season, excluding the 2019-20 campaign when the teams only met once.

Why Bet on Golden State Warriors?

The Warriors had a three-game winning streak snapped in pretty embarrassing fashion on Sunday, 140-88 in Boston to conclude a four-game trip. Boston led by a franchise-record 44 points at halftime and pushed it to 51 early in the third quarter before coach Joe Mazzulla went to his reserves the rest of the way. The Celtics set a league record with their third win this season by 50 points or more and extended their season-best winning streak to 11 games. After a 21-21 tie with 6:05 left in the first quarter, the Celtics outscored the Warriors, 61-17, for an 82-38 halftime lead.

“Flush it down the toilet… Boston was amazing. We weren’t beating them today,” Coach Steve Kerr said. “[The Celtics] were great. They were physical right from the start. They were switching, they put ball pressure on. They were fantastic. Boston is a hell of a team, and this was a really impressive performance by them at both ends.”

Clearly, the game meant much more to Boston than the Warriors. Having lost to Golden State in December at Chase Center, the Celtics felt it was important to avoid being swept.

Stephen Curry didn’t play the second half and finished with a season-low four points for Golden State, his fewest since he had three points in 16 minutes on March 16, 2022 at Boston — a game he left injured. Curry was 2 of 13 from the field Sunday and missed all nine of his 3-point attempts, including consecutive airballs in the opening quarter. It marked the third time since December 17 that he’s failed to hit a three-pointer. Curry still leads all players in 3-pointers made this season with 281. He is 19 away from 300, which would be an NBA-record fifth time reaching the single-season milestone.

“The way that they’ve been playing, they seem very sure of themselves in their identity and who they are,” Curry said of Sunday’s loss. “Give them credit. They came out and whooped us tonight from the jump, and it was one of those perfect storms of a rough (day) on our end and them taking it to us.”

Lester Quinones scored a team-high and career-high-tying 17 points off the bench in the loss. Moses Moody, starting for the fourth consecutive game with Andrew Wiggins out (personal), had 11 points. James Robinson tallied a season-high 10 points off the bench.

On Tuesday, said Wiggins will be available for Wednesday’s game. Wiggins, who missed four games while attending to a family matter, rejoined his teammates on Monday and fully participated in Tuesday’s practice. Moses Moody has been filling the void in the starting lineup; the question is whether or not Wiggins will return to the starting lineup immediately.

In addition, Brandin Podziemski (knee) has been removed from the injury report in advance of Wednesday’s game so the Warriors should have their full roster for the first time since the end of November. Before a two-game absence due to knee soreness, the rookie was averaging 7.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 34.1 percent from the field in 29.8 minutes across five starts after the All-Star break.

Even with that ugly loss, the Warriors have won 13 of their last 17 games. Since January 30, the Warriors lead the NBA in wins (13) and rebounding (49.4 rpg), tied for second in assists (30.5 apg), and are sixth in scoring (118.6 ppg), and tied second in 3-pointers made (15.0). Golden State has allowed 112.6 points (ranked 14th in the league) and 45.2 opponent field goal percentage (fifth) since that date; prior to it, they were allowing 119.0 points per game (22nd) and an opponent field goal percentage of 47.6 (17th).
