Now that we’re in the month of March, college basketball fans know that their favorite time of the year is upon us. With Selection Sunday just ten days away, we’re eagerly anticipating the start of the NCAA Tournament.
In looking at potential entrants into the tournament, we have found a few that we think are good bets to make it into the Sweet 16. We’ve got a few favorites, along with a surprise team or two that we think will make a long tournament run so you can bet against the March Madness Odds.
NCAA Basketball Betting Analysis for the Sweet 16 Regional Semifinal Round
We can’t see any way that the Gonzaga Bulldogs don’t make it to the Sweet 16. With Drew Timme, Chet Holmgren, and Andrew Nembhard leading the way, Gonzaga has one of the top-scoring offenses in the country.
We’ll see if Gonzaga can play better defensively in this year’s tournament than they did last year. A very athletic team could give the Zags problems, but Mark Few has done a lot this season to make sure that last season doesn’t repeat itself.
The Kentucky Wildcats may be the most athletic team in the country. This team is loaded with talent, and John Calipari knows what it takes to win the big game. Kentucky can score inside or outside, they take care of the ball, and they go to the offensive glass as well as anyone.
They have a lot of depth, and with Oscar Tshiebwe manning the inside, the Wildcats will be a tough out.
While many think that Bruce Pearl’s squad will be ripe for an upset, we like the Auburn Tigers to make it to the Sweet 16 and beyond. Jabari Smith Jr. is one of, if not the best player in college basketball.
He has shown a penchant for stepping up big in crunch time. A player like Smith can take games over, and with a talented group surrounding him, this team has the makings of a Final Four squad.
This team has the makings of a long NCAA Tournament run. Currently ranked 18th in the KenPom rankings, the Huskies have a very strong team. They’re in the top 30 in KenPom’s offensive and defensive efficiency ratings, which bodes well for their tournament chances.
Danny Hurley has done a great job of rebuilding the UConn program, and the players love him. This is a well-balanced team, and they play well on both ends of the floor. We think the Huskies can go even further than the Sweet 16.
North Texas Mean Green
Many may consider this pick a huge shock, but this team is built for a tournament run. They upset Purdue in last year’s tournament, and all but six members of that team are no longer there.
They rebuilt on the fly and have a team that’s even better than last year’s squad. This team is one of the best defensive squads in the country, ranking in the top 20 in Ken Pom’s defensive efficiency ratings.
They also have one of the best 3-point defenses in the country. Their offense grinds out the shot clock and makes it hard for their opponents to get the ball. This style of play will give opponents fits in the tournament.
