2021 NHL Power Rankings Expert Analysis Update Feb. 5th

With a full slate of non-stop NHL action on tap for the coming weekend, it’s time to take a fun-filled look around the league at the latest NHL Power Rankings so you can continue betting against their NHL odds.

Will the loaded Tampa Bay Lightning repeat as Stanley Cup champions after claiming the second title in franchise history last season?

Will the perennial powerful Vegas Golden Knights get the fist championship win in franchise history after coming up a wee bit short a year ago or will 2019 champion St. Louis get back on top two years after the franchise won its first title?

Can Stanley Cup runner-up Dallas contend until the end or will all of the aforementioned clubs fall to another legitimate title hopeful teams like Boston, Philadelphia, Montreal or Washington?

The Top 10!

  1. Tampa Bay (6-1-1)

Despite playing only eight games, Tampa Bay looks like it could easily repeat as Stanley Cup champions. The Lightning rank a stellar fourth in scoring (3.6 gpg) and even more impressive third in goals allowed (2.1 gpg). Tampa Bay has not been beaten at home in five games.

  1. Vegas (5-1-1)

The Golden Knights rank 10th in scoring (3.3 gpg) and eighth in goals allowed (2.3 gpg) despite the fact that veteran backup Marc-Andre Fleury (1.00 GAA) has been way better than starter Robin Lehner (2.95 GAA).

  1. Boston (7-1-2)

The Bruins rank 14th in scoring (3.2 gpg) and a fantastic seventh in goals allowed (2.3 gpg). Veteran center Patrice Bergeron (6 goals, 9 assists) and left winger Brad Marchand (6 goals, 8 assists) have both been phenomenal so far this season. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy has nine assists and net-minders Tuukka Rask (2.57 GAA) and backup Jaroslav Halak (1.72 GAA) have been rock-solid in net.

  1. Toronto (8-2-1)

The always-explosive Leafs rank fourth in scoring (3.6 gpg) and a respectable 17th in goals allowed (2.9 gpg). Toronto has won four of five on the road (4-1-0) and four of six at home (4-1-1). Four players have recorded double figures in points scored.

  1. Colorado (7-3-1)

The prohibitive favorites to win the 2021 NHL Stanley Cup are ranked ninth in scoring (3.5 gpg) and a tremendous third in goals allowed (2.2 gpg). Center Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Cale Makar have dished out 12 and 111 assists respectively. The Avs are a 4-1 at home.

  1. Montreal (7-2-2)

The Canadiens are off to a 3-2 mark at home, but have been even better on the road (4-0-2). Right-winger Tyler Toffoli leads the NHL in goals scored (9) while defenseman Jeff Petry sits just outside the top 10 in points scored (13). Goalies Carey Price (4-2, 2.81 GAA) and Jake Allen, (3-1, 2.02 GAA) have both been very good, if not great, in net.

  1. Dallas (5-2-1)

Center Joe Pavelski (7 goals, 15 points), right winger Alexander Radulov (11 points) and defenseman John Klingberg (10 points) are among the best players in the league at their respective positions and I haven’t even gotten to  right-winger Denis Gurianov (4 goals, 9 points). Goalies Anton Khudobin (2.51 GAA) has been solid, but backup Jake Oettinger (2.42 GAA) has been slightly better.

  1. St. Louis (7-3-1)

The Blues rank an encouraging 10th in scoring (3.5 gpg), but an uninspiring 23rd in goals allowed (3.2 gpg). Still, the Blues are a near-perfect 4-1 in five road games this season.

  1. Philadelphia (7-2-2)

Philadelphia ranks an encouraging 10th in scoring (3.5 gpg), but an uninspiring 21st in goals allowed (3.1 gpg). while four players have already reached double figures in points scored, young net-minder Carter Hart (3.42 GAA) has struggled while facing too many shots.

  1. Florida (5-0-2)

Right winger Patric Hornqvist and center Carter Verhaeghe have both lit the lamp five times while left winger Jonathan Huberdeau has dished out eight assists. Florida ranks a fantastic third in scoring by putting up 3.7 goals per game.
