Inter Milano, the top team in Serie A, has just a 4 point lead over Napoli and AC Milan. Atalanta is in fourth place, 10 points behind Inter. Will the defending champion hold on? Italian Serie A Title Winner Favorite, Upset, Long Shot

2021-2022 Italian Serie A Season

When: Aug. 21, 2021 – May 2, 2022

Favorite: Inter Milano -330

Inter, like most teams in Serie A went through big time changes during the offseason. One change that didn’t happen was Lautaro Martinez bouncing from Milano and heading to a Premier League squad.

As long as Martinez calls Inter home, the defending Serie A Champions will be the team to beat. At the odds, though, Inter is a play against. 4 points is nothing. There’s plenty of time for Napoli or AC Milan, heck, even Atalanta, to catch Inter. Don’t accept the -330 unless you truly believe.

Upset

SSC Napoli +800

Early in the season, Napoli held a lead over their Serie A rivals. Since then, Napoli has fallen to second-place. The form is on the upswing, though.

Napoli has had a decent January. The team drew with Juventus on Jan. 6. Napoli has gone on to win 3-of-4. The only stumble was a 5-2 loss to Fiorentina in a Coppa Italia match. If Napoli keeps it up, they will challenge Inter for the title.

AC Milan +900

After a tough 2020-2021 season, AC committed to becoming contenders. So far so good.

AC Milan has stayed within striking distance of Inter Milano. AC’s January sets them up for a Serie A run. Although Milan dropped a match to Spezia on Jan. 17, the +900 choice bounced back with a 0-0 draw versus Juventus on Jan. 23.

Historically, AC Milan is one of the top teams at Serie A. Give them a huge shot to win the championship.

Atalanta +900

Atalanta has more work to do to catch Inter than either AC Milan or Napoli. But heading into February, Atalanta could be the team to beat.

The co-third choice shows solid form. In their last couple of matches, Atalanta has played well, drawing with Juventus and Lazio via 0-0 scores. Like AC and Napoli, Atalanta has a chance to overtake Inter Milano and win this season’s Serie A title.

Long Shot: Juventus +1800

At +1800, Juventus is an overlay. Make no mistake, Juve must work hard to catch AC, Napoli, and Inter. But as of Jan. 27, Juventus shows 43 points, the same amount of points as Atalanta.

So if Atalanta is +900, why is Juventus +1800? Juve has finally gelled around Massimiliano Allegri’s defense first style. It didn’t take long for Allegri to make Juve a Champions League Round of 16 team, either.

Of all the teams on this blog, Juventus is the one to fear. Now that the players have bought into Allegri’s system, Juve should only continue to improve. At +1800, consider backing Juventus to catch Inter and win the Serie A championship.
