2016 SEC College Football Odds Betting Analysis

Written by on May 24, 2016

Can the SEC go back to back, and continue their unbelievable dominance in college football betting lines? According to Las Vegas oddsmakers, they have a really good shot. The SEC is one conference that seemingly is a lock to have a team in the College Football Playoff. Let’s look at a few of the top contenders to win not only the SEC, but a chance to win the national title.

A Closer Look at the 2016 SEC College Football Odds Betting Analysis

Alabama (+160)

Nick Saban will once again have his Crimson Tide at the top of the league, and the country. The uncertainty for the Crimson Tide starts at the quarterback position. Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett, David Cornwell and Jalen Hurts are in a battle for the spot. It appears Bateman has the edge as of now. The Crimson Tide are in good position to repeat, but that November 5th game looms large, as they go to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers. Look for the Alabama Crimson Tide to not only win the +160 bet for the SEC title, but also the 8/1 odds to win the national title.

LSU (+400)

Les Miles and the LSU Tigers have their best shot at a national title in several seasons. Remember, this is the same coach that was almost fired after last season. The Tigers will need to improve their balance on the offensive side, and cannot rely on Leonard Fournette to carry the entire offense. Brandon Harris, the quarterback has got to be reliable, and use his weapons of Travis Dural, Malachi Dupre and Tyler Johnson. The LSU Tigers are a fun bet at +400, and at 12/1 to win the national title, look to be a great contender. Could the SEC have two teams with the Crimson Tide and the Tigers getting to the Final Four dance?

Tennessee (+500)

The Volunteers are the favorites to win the “other side” of the SEC. The Volunteers are +500 to win the SEC, which would mean they would have to beat LSU or Alabama in the title game. To win the national title, the Volunteers are 14/1. It’s hard to imagine Tennessee can get through the SEC slate without at least one loss, and even harder to imagine they would be able to knock out the two big dogs at the top. Even at 14/1, we don’t like Tennessee to win the national title. Joshua Dobbs is good, but it’s hard to trust him past the SEC East.

Ole Miss (+700)

The Rebels are third in the vaunted SEC West. The Rebels will have a tough time with several of their key pieces heading to the NFL Draft. Chad Kelly is the quarterback, but how upright will he be with a questionable offensive line, and minus his top deep threat? The Rebels have a brutal schedule, early, including a game at Florida State, and home games with Alabama and Georgia. That seems to be too much for a team that will have many inexperienced players. A couple others that were not mentioned include Georgia +1000, Arkansas +1200 and Florida +1200. There is a good look at the odds to win the SEC title in 2016!
