The North Texas Mean Green (7-6) faces the Boise State Broncos (9-4) in the fifth edition of the Frisco Bowl. North Texas is a representative from Conference USA, while Boise State is out of the Mountain West.

North Texas wrapped up the regular season, dropping two of its last three contests, both defeats coming on the road. The Mean Green finished second in Conference USA with a 6-2 conference record. 

Seth Littrell was the North Texas coach for seven seasons but was relieved of his duties on Sunday. Defensive coordinator Phil Bennett will serve as the interim head coach for the Mean Green in Saturday’s bowl bout.

On offense, North Texas enters, averaging 33.9 points per game while racking up 262.2 yards through the air and 201.7 on the ground. Defensively, the Mean Green hold opponents to 31.5 points and 460.2 yards of total offense per contest.

Quarterback Austin Aune took nearly every snap under center for North Texas. Aune threw for 3,309 yards with 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. 

A trio of running backs led the Mean Green backfield in Ayo Adeyi, Ikaika Ragsdale, and Oscar Adaway III. Ragsdale and Adaway III led the team with five touchdowns a piece, while Adeyi garnered the most rushing yards with 740.

Rodric Burns and Jyaire Shorter were the go-to playmakers out wide, with Burns leading the team in receptions (37) and yards (650) and Shorter scoring ten touchdowns.

The Mean Green are 6-4 against the spread this season but 0-8 ATS in their last eight games played in December. 

Boise State Broncos -409

The Broncos rolled through their division in the Mountain West with a perfect 8-0 conference record but fell to Fresno State in the title game, 28-16. Three of Boise State’s four losses this season came from teams playing in upcoming bowl games. Andy Avalos is in his second season as the head coach of the Broncos.

Boise State scores 29.1 points per contest thanks to an offense that generates 194.7 yards through the air and 187.0 yards rushing. The Broncos defense surrenders only 18.5 points and 281.5 yards of total offense. 

The dual-threat ability of Taylen Green was the engine to Boise’s offense in 2022. Green threw for 1,905 yards and added 467 yards on the ground while tallying a total of 21 touchdowns.

George Holani got the majority of the carries at running back, with Ashton Jeanty adding a change-of-pace option. Holani surpassed 1,000 yards, rushing for 1,133 yards and ten touchdowns. Jeanty chipped in 643 yards and six touchdowns.

A lacking passing game didn’t stop Latrell Caples and Billy Bowens from having solid seasons. Caples hauled in 45 passes for 462 yards and four scores, while Bowens caught 30 receptions for 449 yards and four TDs.

Boise State is also 6-4 ATS over its last ten, with a 6-2 mark ATS in its last eight games played away from home on a Saturday.
