At first glance, it looks as if Switzerland got a favorable draw. The Swiss must contend with Brazil in Group G. But outside of the World Cup chalk, Switzerland looks best because they get to play Serbia and Cameroon. Before dumping on the Swiss to make it to the next round, though, it’s important for us to handicap their chances. Keep reading for FIFA World Cup Odds on the Swiss to win the World Cup as well as an analysis and a prediction as to whether they make it to the next round.

Switzerland Odds to Win the FIFA Qatar World Cup

  • Switzerland +8000

The odds on Switzerland to win the World Cup are incredibly high. But just because the Swiss offer astronomical odds, it doesn’t mean they’re an overlay.

FIFA ranks Switzerland fourteenth in the world. At their ranking, one would expect the Swiss to offer lower odds to win the WC. But the top three ranked teams in the world, Brazil, Belgium, and France are much, much better than Switzerland.

So really, being ranked right behind Uruguay and ahead of the United States doesn’t mean the Swiss are close to contending for a WC title. Not only that, but like 23 other teams in this year’s WC, the Swiss have never won a World Cup.

Why would they do it this season when Brazil and France field super teams and Argentina, England, and Spain field their best national teams in at least the last couple of World Cup tournaments?

If you want to take a shot on a +8000 underdog, go for it. But there’s no reason to believe Switzerland suddenly steps it up versus the best in the world.

Why Switzerland will move to the next round

The Swiss won’t win the World Cup, but they have a good chance of making it to the Round of 16. The reason? Brazil will own Group G. The Swiss should finish second.

Serbia and Cameroon are solid clubs. But neither is as strong as Switzerland. The Swiss will fall to Brazil but do enough to beat Serbia and Cameroon and finish second in their group.

Why Switzerland won’t move to the next round

Although Switzerland is a better team than Serbia and Cameroon, this happens in the Qatar desert. The Swiss may not appreciate the environment the way Serbia and Cameroon could.

Cameroon may be better suited for hot climates while the Swiss could struggle. Not only that, but, yes, Switzerland is better. But how much better are they than Cameroon and Serbia?

Final Analysis – Switzerland struggles in deeper than it looks Group G

If they lose at all, Brazil will lose in either the World Cup semifinals or the finals. The Brazilians are light years ahead of the other teams in their group.

But even though Brazil will win Group G, it doesn’t mean that Switzerland is automatically the second team to get out of the group.

Serbia has a lot of young talent. Cameroon is a much better team than many believe. So even though Switzerland should finish second, their march to the Round of 16 is far from certain.

The prediction here is that Serbia knocks out Switzerland. The Swiss play well, but they don’t play well enough to beat Serbia and make it to the knockout stage.
