It’s never a wise idea to make bold division predictions at this stage of the MLB season, but I think I can safely say that the Washington Nationals are a shoe-in to win the NL East this season. You are all welcome to come back and slam me if that prediction doesn’t pan out. The question that needs to be asked right now is in regards which of the 4 other teams in the division has what it takes to run down the Washington Nationals. The Mets would likely be the pick of the bunch, but they have not really done anything to suggest that they can make a real run at the Nats. Even if one of the four was able to hit a rich vein of form, they would also require the Nationals to go in the tank a little, which they really don’t look like doing at this point. Washington currently has a 9.5-game lead that has stayed consistent for quite some time now, and they will have a chance to pull away even further when they welcome in the Atlanta Braves to start the week.

Why Bet on the Atlanta Braves?
The Atlanta Braves (27-35) are delivering pretty much what everyone expected of them, which is an up and down season where several younger players try to break into the league, with some good veterans helping them along. As you might expect with these ingredients, you don’t always get a dish that is very palatable. There have been times when the Braves have looked good this year, but there have also been times when they have looked really bad, such as they did in their weekend series versus the Mets, where they lost 3 of 4 after winning the opening game in the series. The Braves are 2-4 versus the Nationals this season, with both of those wins coming at home. R.A. Dickey (4-4. 4.73 ERA) will start for the Braves.
