MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Avoid in Week 10

MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Avoid in Week 10

Trying to decide which games to wager on in any given week in the MLB can be tough, simply because there are so many games to choose from. I like to go through and pick out the games that I feel really good about, which tend to be those that have what I perceive to be a pitching mismatch. Of course, it is impossible to always be right, as a hot pitcher can have a bad start in the same way that one who is struggling can suddenly pitch a gem. It’s an inexact science, but it is a good way to start whittling down the games worth wagering on. With that in mind, here are the pitchers I would bet MLB against in Week 10.

MLB Pitchers to Avoid after Week 9 of the season | MLB Lines by MyBookie

Tommy Henry
Arizona Diamondbacks

I will be the first to admit that this might be a bit of a dubious selection, especially since Henry has 2 wins in his last 3 starts. His Tuesday night start is also against the Washington Nationals, who are not exactly lighting things up right now, but I just have a hunch that this might be an off night for the D-Backs pitcher. He does have a start against the Nationals this season, a game that his team won by a score of 8-7, with henry responsible for 2 of those runs. I can understand if you guys pass on this one, as it could go the other way.

Jordan Lyles
Kansas City Royals

I have zero qualms about this pick, as it has been a bit of a nightmare season for Lyles to this point. He is 0-9 on the year with an ERA of 6.89. He did pitch a pretty solid 5 innings in his last start, with came against the Colorado Rockies, but the only upside there was that he did not get hit with the L in a 7-2 loss in that game. Wednesday night will see him take the mound against a Miami Marlins team that is hot and making a run at the NL East. I have a feeling that they are going to get to Lyles early and often in this one.

Colin Rea
Milwaukee Brewers

Rea is scheduled to get the start for the Brewers on Thursday afternoon, and while he has certainly not been terrible this season, this is one of those games where I just think he might be in trouble against a very good opponent in the Baltimore Orioles. Rea has turned things around after a poor start to the season and has now won each of his last 5 starts to get to 3-3 on the season. He is a guy that you could certainly make a positive argument for, but I just think he might be outmatched against Baltimore.

Yusei Kikuchi
Toronto Blue Jays

It would be easy to just list the pitchers with the worst stats in the league and leave it at that, but I like to try and find guys that you might not ordinarily consider as a pitcher to avoid in an upcoming game. That is very much the case with Kikuchi, who has been good over the last couple of games. If you look at his two before that, though, both of which came against solid opposition, he was not so good, surrendering 8 ER in 9.3 innings versus the Rays and Orioles. His next start is scheduled to come on Friday against the Minnesota Twins, who lead their division, so another tough one.

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
