Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox, Tuesday: The Red Sox will be favored behind ace left-hander David Price even though he has worse numbers than his counterpart, Orioles right-hander and ace Chris Tillman. Price (7-3, 4.63) got off to a slow start this season but has pitched much better lately. Price allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven in eight innings in Wednesday night’s 2-1 loss to the Giants in a great duel with San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner.Price has allowed more than two earned runs just once in his past six starts. After a 5.76 ERA in April, Price posted a 4.62 ERA in May and has a 2.40 ERA through two June starts. Orioles right fielder Mark Trumbo is batting .364 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in his career vs. Price. Tillman (8-1, 3.01) continued his dominant start to the season Wednesday, throwing 7 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out nine in a win over Kansas City. Tillman has not lost a start since April 14 and is 9-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 18 career starts vs. Boston. Go Red Sox at home here despite Tillman’s past success against them. Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets, Wednesday: New York will be favored behind ace right-hander Noah Syndergaard (6-2, 2.00). Syndergaard pitched six innings in last Wednesday’s game against the Pirates, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. He did not factor into the decision. The Pirates have lost starting catcher Francisco Cervelli for up to six weeks with a broken hand. Cervelli left Friday night’s game against St. Louis after breaking his hamate bone on a swing. He had surgery Saturday. Cervelli is hitting .257 with 21 RBIs and is a very good defender. The Pirates start lefty Jeff Locke (5-4, 5.38) in this game. Locke was torched by the Rockies for 11 runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings Thursday. He walked three and struck out two. The first four Rockies hitters were a home run shy of the cycle before Locke could register his first out of the day. Locke didn’t face the Mets earlier in the season. Seattle at Tampa Bay, Thursday The Rays will give their top pitching prospect, Blake Snell, his second career big-league start. Snell is needed because Matt Andriese is headed to the bullpen to assume to role Erasmo Ramirez played earlier this season. Snell was solid in his first MLB start against the Yankees, tossing five innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts. Snell was Baseball America’s 2015 Minor League Player of the Year after posting a 15-4 record, 1.41 ERA, and 163 strikeouts over 134 innings between Single-A Advanced Port Charlotte, Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. The Mariners go with James Paxton (0-2, 2.25). He scattered six hits over 6.1 scoreless innings, but didn’t factor in the decision against the Rangers on Saturday night. He walked two and struck out seven. Paxton has yet to win in three starts filling in for Felix Hernandez, but he’s allowed just one earned run and 11 hits with three walks and 17 strikeouts over 12 1/3 innings in his last two outings. He beat the Rays in his MLB debut in 2013.
