Texas Rangers Jon Gray versus the Houston Astros

Although Jone Gray didn’t have a great start to the season, going 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA, his strikeouts and WHIP in 8 innings pitched have been impressive.

Gray’s WHIP is a nice 1.78. He’s struck out 14 batters and on Tuesday he faces the Stros, a team that is underperforming at 6-11 so far this season. Because Gray allows the Astros to bat .264, he may offer decent odds as well.

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal versus the Texas Rangers

Skubal is on his way to a Cy Young. The Detroit ace has been electric so far in 2024. In 17.1 innings, Skubal is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA, 20 strikeouts and a .75 WHIP.

The Tigers’ bullpen isn’t fantastic and Detroit faces the Rangers, which means this won’t be a slam dunk. Hopefully, the odds will reflect the dangers of backing Skubal. If they do, we may get a decent number on the soon to be superstar Detroit pitcher.

Chicago Cubs Shota Imanaga versus Miami Marlins

Imanaga may be the NL Cy Young winner this season. The Chicago Cubs ace is doing every right. His ERA is an amazing 0.00 to go along with 16 Ks, a .072 WHIP and a 2-0 record.

On Thursday, Imanaga faces a Marlins team that isn’t good, which means the Cubs will be massive moneyline favorites. This is a run line play for sure since the game happens at Wrigley. If the Cubs’ bats do their part, a run line victory should be a no problem win.

Tony Lovullo had assigned Zac Gallen to take on the Blake Snell and the Giants on Friday. Jordan Montgomery is the pegged to step to the mound.

Montgomery was decent last season and Snell is struggling. The D’Backs are the road team and this will be Montgomery’s first start, which means the G-Men should walk onto the diamond the moneyline favorite. This game projects as decent odds on an NL power. If you like dogs with a chance, Montgomery and AZ are one of the week’s top potential plays.

LA Dodgers James Paxton versus the New York Mets

We’re going against Mets burgeoning star Jose Butto in this. Butto, a 26 year old from Venezuela, has struck out 15 with a .75 ERA in 12 innings.

The Dodgers are playing lights out, though, and Butto won’t get the required run support against James Paxton, who is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Paxton is a veteran who knows how to pace himself. He’ll do what’s necessary to put the relievers into a position to save the game.

Minnesota’s Louis Varland versus the Detroit Tigers

On paper, Varland is a disaster. The Minnesota pitcher is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. But Varland was at the Dodgers and the Brewers in his first 2 starts.

The 26 year old steps to the mound in the Twin Cities on Sunday. Not only that, the Twins face Casey Mize, who they should get to early to support Varland’s quest for his first win. Louis gets that first victory on Sunday.
