MLB World Series Betting Update: Teams that Have Surprised and Are Shifting the Odds

Anyone who has followed the MLB for any length of time is well aware that getting carried away with any one team before we hit the midway point of the season is never a good idea. That said, we have seen enough of every team in the league to have an idea of how the rest of the season might play out, barring injuries or a total collapse in the second half. History has shown that maintaining great form from start to finish in a 162-game season is close to impossible, but there are a few teams who are currently upsetting the odds and looking like serious contenders. Whether these teams are still in the same position at the end of the season remains to be seen, but for now, let’s take a look at 3 teams who are performing better than expected so you can continue making your bets against the MLB World Series Betting Lines.

MLB Surprise Teams That Are Shaking the World Series Odds

New York Mets

Last season, the New York Mets finished the year with a record of 77-85, which left them 11 ½ games back of the Atlanta Braves, who won the NL East. The Mets made some very good moved in the offseason, and while many expected them to improve, this is still a relatively young squad, so the expectations were not set too high. The Mets are currently sitting atop the East with a 47-39 record, but a lead that was up at 8 games not so long ago is now down to just 3, with the Atlanta Braves going on a run at the same time that the Mets have cooled off. The pitching for the Mets is beginning to slip, but this is still a very good offensive team, so expect them to hang around. The Mets are at +640 to win the World Series.

San Diego Padres

Given the money that they spend on talent, we all expect the LA Dodgers to win the NL West in convincing style every single season. They are in their usual spot atop the division, but the Dodgers are certainly not having it all their own way. The San Diego Padres are just a game and a half back right now, sitting with a record of 46-31. Manny Machado is delivering the goods, and the pitching leads the league with 42 quality starts. If the pitching staff can continue to hold up their end of the bargain, we might see a very good divisional battle going on till the end of the season. Right now, the Padres are on the board at +1025 to win the World Series.

Minnesota Twins

The fact of the matter is that you really don’t expect too much from a team that lost 98 games in their previous season, but the Twins are proving to be a fun young team to watch through the first half of this season. They are currently sitting at 43-35, which gives them a 2-game lead in the AL Central. The Twins are not getting a lot of quality starts from their pitching staff, but as a whole, the pitching has helped them on many nights. They are sitting just above .500 on the road, so they will need to improve on that in the second half if they want to stay on top.
