March Madness Betting Update: Teams That Are Already Locks for 2023

March Madness Betting Update: Teams That Are Already Locks for 2023

It’s the final day of February, which can mean only one thing for college basketball fans, which is that the tournament is almost upon us. The final days of the regular season, plus the conference tournaments, are going to be wild, as teams on the bubble give one final push to become on of the 68 teams in with a shot at winning it all. Those battles will go down to the wire, but the experts believe that we have 25-30 teams who should be considered tournament locks. Let’s break the list down by conference for your betting against college basketball odds.

Bracketology 2023: These teams are already locks for March Madness

American

Houston is the top ranked team in the nation and will definitely be playing in the tournament, and almost certainly as a #1 seed.

ACC

I think it’s fair to suggest that Virginia, Miami, and NC State are all locks right now, with Duke and Pitt about as close to being locked in as it gets.

Big 12

There are a lot of fans who think that Kansas has a shot at repeating this season. They are a lock, as are Texas, Baylor, Kansas State, and Iowa State.

Big East

There are going to be a lot of teams from this conference playing ball in March Madness. Right now, I would suggest that Marquette, UConn, Xavier, Creighton, and Providence are locks.

Big Ten

Another conference that will be heavily represented. As far as locks go, I think Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, and Maryland are locks, with a few more to follow.

Mountain West

The only team that looks to be a lock here is San Diego State.

PAC-12

I think we can safely say that we have a pair of locks coming from this conference right now, with those teams being UCLA and Arizona.

SEC

There are many fans and pundits who believe that the national champion will come from this conference. Alabama is probably the favorite of the bunch, but Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Missouri are also locks to be in.

WCC

We have a pair of locks coming from this conference, starting with the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who always seem to be in the mix. I would think that St. Mary’s are also in the lock category, too.

Besides the teams mentioned, there are several more who are probably just a win or tow away from locking their place in the tournament. The next couple of weeks will determine how things play out, especially for the teams on the bubble, all of whom need to finish strong of they are to find their way in. While the teams mentioned above are definite locks, do not expect any of them to take their foot off the gas. There is no such thing as an easy path to a national championship, but seeding can make things go a whole lot smoother. Expect the aforementioned teams to make a serious push down the stretch as they look for a high seeding in the bracket and a path to the title that might be considered a little more manageable.
