NFL 2021 Preseason: Indianapolis at Detroit Betting Analysis

NFL 2021 Preseason: Indianapolis at Detroit Betting Analysis

In the final preseason game for both teams, the Indianapolis Colts will play the Detroit Lions. The Colts have yet to lose a preseason game, while the Lions are winless in the exhibition season. With the regular season upon us, we’ll see a lot of starters from both teams and some fierce battles for open spots on both rosters. Let’s take a brief look at both squads so you can get all set to make your bets against their NFL Preseason odds.

NFL Betting Preview for Indianapolis Colts vs Detroit Lions

Indianapolis Colts Preview

The preseason hasn’t gone as expected for the Indianapolis Colts. When they acquired Carson Wentz from the Eagles, many felt that this was the piece that the Colts needed. Unfortunately, the Colts have been fighting injuries this preseason. Wentz and All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson both had breaks in their feet and could miss a portion of the regular season.

The Colts are hoping that this weekend’s preseason finale at Ford Field in Detroit against the Lions will go smoothly. Indianapolis is coming off of a 12-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings last weekend. The Colts defense played well in their win.

If Wentz is unable to go in the regular-season opener, it’s still undecided who will start under center for the Indianapolis Colts. Neither Jacob Eason nor Sam Ehlinger played well in last week’s win over the Vikings. Head Coach Frank Reich has yet to name a backup to Wentz or who would start if Wentz is unable to play early in the season. We’ll see if one of them can play well enough to separate themselves from the other. This last preseason game will go a long way in determining who could end up being the Colts starter.

Detroit Lions Preview

This is going to be a rebuilding season for the Detroit Lions. Coming off of a lackluster 5-11 2020 season, the Lions brought in Dan Campbell to try and right the ship. The unique Campbell has brought tenacity to this Lions squad. We’ll see how well this carries into the regular season.

One huge change for the Lions this season will be the fact that Matthew Stafford is no longer with the team. Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff and draft picks. Goff will take over under center for Stafford. The former top draft pick will have his work cut out for him, as the Lions are void of a lot of offensive weapons.

One weapon that should see a lot of action is D’Andre Swift. The Georgia product had a nice rookie campaign, and he will look to improve on that. Jamaal Williams will also see a lot of action in the Lions’ backfield this year. Williams came over from the Green Bay Packers in the offseason.

This last preseason game should settle some open positions for the Lions. As bad as they were last season, they have a lot of holes to fill.

Predictions

The Colts are the better team at this time and are 3.5-point favorites. We think that both Eason and Ehlinger will play well for Indianapolis, and they will help propel their team to a 10-point victory.
