Series History

Missouri has won the last four meetings to take an 8-5 lead in the all-time series with South Carolina. The Tigers have won three of the five previous games in their home state, while the teams have split six games in South Carolina evenly. Last year, the Tigers won 23-10 at home. Missouri outgained South Carolina 367 yards to 203, with just 99 of the Gamecocks’ yards coming in the second half. The Mizzou defense recorded 11 tackles for loss, including four QB sacks, broke up four passes and forced two turnovers. Tigers QB Brady Cook completed 17-of-24 passes for 224 yards and rushed 11 times for 53 yards.

Why Bet on South Carolina Gamecocks?

The Gamecocks (2-4) are off a crushing home loss to Florida last Saturday, 41-39, as the Gators rallied from 10 points down in the fourth quarter. They trailed 37-27 when Spencer Rattler threw his fourth TD pass, a 33-yard scoring toss to tight end Joshua Simon with 9:11 to play. Safety Miguel Mitchell picked off Rattler on South Carolina’s final possession. The Gators took a safety with 4 seconds left for their second straight SEC win. The Gamecocks have been beset with injuries and are off to their worst start since Beamer arrived in 2021.

It was such a frustrating loss that USC coach Shane Beamer broke a bone in his right foot when he kicked a Gatorade cooler: “It was after the game, and certainly that was a gut-wrenching and emotional loss,” Beamer told reporters. “I was frustrated and kicked something I shouldn’t have kicked and thought I was OK, and then the adrenaline of the game wore off.”

Three of South Carolina’s four losses have come to teams ranked in the AP Top 25 and away from Williams-Brice Stadium. The six teams that Carolina has played are a combined 31-7, with two of those losses coming to the Gamecocks.

Rattler has completed 142-of-193 passes for 1,724 yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. He ranks 16th in the nation with 287.3 passing yards per game and is seventh with a 73.6 percent completion rate. Wideout Xavier Legette has caught 37 passes for 716 yards, averaging 19.4 yards per catch and 119.3 yards per game, with three touchdowns. He ranks fourth among all FBS players in receiving yards per game and is 24th in yards per reception.

On the ground, Carolina totaled 86 rushes for 159 yards (1.8 yards per carry) in the first three games combined but has rushed 107 times for 428 yards (4.0 ypc) in its last three games against SEC opponents Mississippi State, Tennessee and Florida.

The Gamecocks are 5-2 vs. Missouri when scoring 21 or more points. They are winless in six games when scoring 20 or fewer, including three of the last four contests.

Why Bet on #20 Missouri Tigers?

Missouri (6-1) bounced back from its first loss of the year with a 38-21 win at No. 24 Kentucky last Saturday. It was MU’s first win in Lexington since 2013 and made the Tigers bowl-eligible midway through October. Eli Drinkwitz is the second head coach in Mizzou history to lead the Tigers to bowl eligibility in each of his four first seasons (Warren Powers, 1978-81).

Kentucky led 14-0 early but a successful fake punt by Mizzou changed everything. From that point on, the Tigers outscored the Wildcats 31-7. Brady Cook finished the contest connecting on 19-of-29 passing attempts for 167 yards, snapping his string of four consecutive 300-yard passing games. Cook started the game going 5-for-12 for 38 yards and an interception but would follow it up by completing 13 of his next 15, logging 122 yards and a touchdown.

Harrison Mevis nailed his 71st, 72nd and 73rd-career field goals, moving to ninth on the SEC’s all-time list. Mevis has now accounted for 347 career points, eight shy of Andrew Baggett for third in program history.

The Tigers have logged five straight games scoring at least 30 points, their longest streak against FBS competition since Aug. 31-Oct. 12, 2019. To open SEC play, Mizzou’s offense has put up 115 points in their first three games, their best total through three conference contests since 2013. It is 3-0 this season when trailing after the first quarter, previously completing comeback wins against Memphis and Vanderbilt after trailing heading into the second quarter. It was Missouri’s first comeback victory after trailing by 14 points since beating Arkansas in Fayetteville on Nov. 24, 2017.

Star running back Cody Schrader is questionable this week. He logged 20 carries for 71 yards and one touchdown during Missouri’s game at Kentucky but aggravated a quad injury. Schrader has 111 carries for 648 yards and seven TDs. Linebacker Chad Bailey is out this week.
