John H. Nemechek

Nemechek remains at the top of the driver standings and looks to be a lock to be part of the proceedings in the final race of the season. While he didn’t win last week, he did land on the podium after a 2nd place finish, picking up enough points to keep him ahead of the chasing pack. He now has 5 podium finishes in his last 6 races, which certainly appears to be the form of a potential champion, but can he get back to winning this weekend? It has been a few years since he raced on the Homestead track in the Xfinity Series, with a 3rd place finish his best run. A win is definitely possible, but a top 3 finish is a pretty good bet, I believe.

Justin Allgaier

When writing these pieces, the goal is always to remain as impartial as possible. That said, it is tough not to be rooting for Allgaier to win the championship that has eluded him to this point in his career despite the fact that he always seems to be there or thereabouts heading into the final few races. After a poor run at Roval, Allgaier returned to form somewhat with a 6th place finish in Las Vegas last weekend. He has not had the best of times on this track, though, finishing 10th at Homestead last season. Still, he seems like a good bet to crack the top 10 again this time around.

Austin Hill

While not exactly setting the world on fire over the past few races, Hill has done enough to stay in the top 4, although he would love to get the win that secures his spot in the final race of the season. He has finished in the top 10 in each of the last 3 races and has now not won since a victory at Pocono back in July. Last season in this race, Hill finished 9th overall, so given that and his current form, I think we are potentially looking at mote of the same.

Cole Custer

Custer comes into this race on the heels of back-to-back podium finishes, which means that he is now on a run of 8 top 10 finishes in his last 9 races. As impressive as all of that is, there are no wins in that run, which is probably why he is clinging to life in the #4 spot in the driver standings right now. He is certainly not assured of moving into the Championship Race and probably needs a win to be totally sure of moving on. Custer has a pair of 2nd place finishes at Homestead in recent years, so look out for him this weekend.
