Writer’s Picks for the AP Top 25 NCAAF Week 15 Games
5 Georgia a +2.5 dog versus 2 Texas in the SEC Championship
The betting line makes zero sense.
Texas faced one decent SEC team this entire season and lost on their home field.
Georgia was that team.
Not only did Georgia beat Texas, the Dawgs thumped the Longhorns 30-15.
Since then Texas barely got by Vanderbilt and beat up Florida, Arkansas, and Kentucky.
The Horns beat rival Texas A&M by 10.
So how much better is Texas now from when Georgia dusted them?
Also, this game happens at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta where we should expect a sea of UGA red in the stands.
The Bulldogs were looking past Georgia Tech in their last and still managed an overtime win.
Kirby’s crew is going to be ready to put another beating onto the Texas Longhorns.
Georgia moneyline at +114 is the play.
NCAAF AP Poll MU Pick: Georgia +114
1 Oregon takes on Penn State a -3.5 chalk
The odds suggest Penn State gives Oregon a game.
The Nittany Lions might and they could still end up on the losing end against the spread.
The problem with playing Oregon is that not only must you deal with a great offense led by experienced Dillon Gabriel but that you must also find a way to beat Dan Lanning’s defense.
Lanning is a defensive mastermind.
He’s Kirby Smart’s former D coordinator at Georgia.
The Oregon D has gotten better week to week this season.
Don’t be fooled by the Ducks’ 16-13 road victory over Wisconsin.
Luke Fickell is a great coach and the Ducks were due for a letdown performance.
A week later, Oregon blasted rival Washington 49-21.
The Ducks also have a big road win over Michigan, upset Ohio State at home, and rallied to beat Boise State in week 2.
Penn State will fight hard in this but the Lions don’t have the talent to beat or even cover the spread against the Ducks.
Oregon wins by 7 or more on their way to the CFP’s top seed.
NCAAF AP Poll MU Pick: Oregon -3.5
12 Arizona State is a -2.5 fave against 16 Iowa State for the Big 12 title
The Big 12 Championship is the toughest game to handicap because Iowa State and ASU are so similar.
Not only that but the participants both beat Kansas State and lost to a similar foe in Texas Tech.
Arizona State can for sure win this.
However, the Sun Devils may find the task too tall of an order after facing and beating ranked Kansas State and BYU and demolishing rival Arizona in an emotional revenge game in their last.
ASU could crash from the high they got from taking down the horrible Wildcats in Tucson.
If the Devils bounce, Iowa State wins straight up.
There’s some reason to believe the Cyclones are the team to back on the moneyline.
NCAAF AP Poll MU Pick: Arizona State -2.5
8 SMU throws down against 18 Clemson a -2.5 favorite
Clemson couldn’t close the door on rival South Carolina in their last even though the game happened in Death Valley.
On Saturday, Dabo Swinney and his team travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to throw down against the ACC’s top team, the SMU Mustangs.
Southern Methodist has won 9 straight since falling to BYU early in the season.
The game versus BYU ended 18-15.
So the Mustangs could have easily gone 12-0.
SMU has the deadly combination of boasting a terrific offense led by Kevin Jennings and a defense which has allowed just 2 teams to score 28 or more points this season, TCU, which SMU beat 66-42, and Boston College, which the Mustangs beat 38-28.
Beating and covering against Clemson won’t be easy.
But the three loss Tigers failed against the best ACC opponent they faced this season, Louisville.
SMU gets it done with a win and cover and secures a top four seed in the College Football Playoff.
NCAAF AP Poll MU Pick: SMU +2.5
19 UNLV only a +3.5 underdog versus 10 Boise State in the MWC title game
Those football handicappers who believe that action has a lot in determining outcomes must be wary of the Boise State Broncos.
UNLV opened as a +3.5 underdog even though the game happens on the Broncos’ blue field.
The line hasn’t moved, which means even casual college football fans aren’t throwing their money behind Boise State.
At least they aren’t yet.
There’s some reason to believe the Runnin’ Rebels win this straight up.
UNLV’s D stepped it up in the Rebels’ last three games, holding San Diego State to 20 in a 41-20 victory, locking down on San Jose State in a 27-16 win, and keeping Nevada to 14 in a 38-14 victory.
Not only that but Boise State beat UNLV 29-25 early in the NCAAF season.
The Runnin’ Rebels will make the necessary adjustments to turn the tables on the 1-loss Broncos.
UNLV wins this straight up.
NCAAF AP Poll MU Pick: UNLV +3.5
24 Army a +6.5 underdog versus unranked Tulane in the AAC Championship
Tulane is unranked but the Green Wave, which lost to their final regular season game to rival Memphis this past Saturday, is the -6.5 chalk over 24 Army.
Although the game has no bearing on the College Football Playoff, it is an intriguing matchup for the American Athletic Conference title.
Army has single blemish on their record.
It came against Notre Dame, a sure fire College Football Playoff participant.
Tulane is not Notre Dame.
Also, Bryson Dailey, Army’s dual threat superfast QB, rushed for 136 yards against the Irish defense.
Think what Dailey is going to do versus Tulane’s D.
Army can win this straight up but there’s no reason to push our luck.
Backing the Black Knights at +6.5 makes a lot of sense.
NCAAF AP Poll MU Pick: Army +6.5
