Texas Tech Red Raiders 2023 College Football Season Betting Guide

Texas Tech Red Raiders 2023 College Football Season Betting Guide

There are some big changes coming to the Big 12 Conference over the next couple of seasons, starting with the conference expanding to 14 teams in 2023. That will be a temporary move, as Texas and Oklahoma will depart to the SEC after this season. Making it to the top in such a congested situation is going to be no easy feat, and we will likely see a dog-eat-dog situation once we get into the thick of conference play. The Texas Tech Red Raiders will hope to be in the mix in their second season with Joey McGuire as the head coach. He had a solid first year, which we will get into in a moment, but this sport is all about moving forward and not treading water, so fans will be expecting more in Year 2. Let’s take a closer look at the current NCAA Football odds and how things might go.

The Red Raiders in 2022

After 3 somewhat mediocre seasons in charge of the Red Raiders, Matt Wells was relieved of the head coaching duties at the end of the 2021 season. McGuire took the reins last season, and while it took his team a moment to get going, they closed out strong, winning 5 in a row, which included a bowl win, to get to 8-5 on the year. All in all, it was not a bad first season in charge, and with the way things ended last year, expectations are running high. There is still a tough path for this team to get to the conference championship game this season, but there are reasons to believe it might not be out of the question.

Betting Odds for the Red Raiders in 2023

Let’s start things out by looking at the win total for the Red Raiders in the regular season. The number is currently sitting at 7 ½, which I think is a bit of a bargain. This team won 7 games in the regular season in 2022 and they look to be even better this time around. They have 14 starters returning and also have Tyler Slough under center once more, leading what could prove to be a very potent offense. I think the OVER is a solid bet this season.

Once again, Texas and Oklahoma are in as the favorites to be headed to the Big 12 Conference Championship Game, but they do have to play one another, so that might open a door for the teams considered to be of the dark horse variety. The Red Raiders are in that mix and are currently sitting at odds of +980 to win the Big 12, right behind Kansas State. Their offense figures to be solid enough, but if they are to make a trip to the big game, they are going to need their D to be a whole lot better.

With the current setup in the Big 12, the chances of Texas Tech going on a run that takes them all the way to the postseason seems slim at best. Even if they did win the conference, they would likely do so with a couple of losses to their name, which would ultimately take them out of postseason contention. At odds of +20000 to win the Natty, those are odds that even the most diehard Red Raiders fan would balk at.
