Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes has played in three postseason games this season, and has yet to throw an interception. Mahomes has made 103 throws, and has 4 touchdowns so far. His connection with Travis Kelce has been mind boggling, and something that Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers defense is going to have to figure out. Mahomes was good in the regular season, with 16 games started, and 27 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. The signal caller lost five fumbles on the season. The Chiefs quarterback was a little hampered by his receivers, and their inability to hold on to the pass at times. Mahomes is ready for another opportunity, as he won the Super Bowl MVP in both of their wins.

Travis Kelce

The 34 year old has had an interesting season, and is one of the most talked about players in the National Football League. The third round pick in 2013 has won two Super Bowls, and caught a touchdown in each of those games. Kelce has three touchdowns in three postseason rounds this season.  His season was a little rocky, as he missed time early in the season ,and then was hampered by injuries and poor play. The tight end finished 16 yards shy of 100, but has been a menace in the postseason. In the win at Baltimore, Kelce finished with 11 receptions, and 116 yards. He is the type of guy that is nearly impossible to stop with his big body and nice hands. Kelce is going to be a massive target for the Chiefs when the big game kicks off from Vegas.

Andy Reid

There has been some talk about the 65 year old retiring from coaching following this season. Reid has been with the Kansas City Chiefs since the 2013 season, and has won two Super Bowl titles. He was with the Eagles before this, and has been a head coach since the 1999 season. He never got back to the big game with the Eagles. He finished with 130 total wins in Philadelphia. With the Chiefs, his trip to the Super Bowl in 2019 was a sinner, but then they failed to repeat, falling to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. Last season, Reid and the Chiefs topped the Eagles to take the Super Bowl LVII title.

Defense

Kansas City allowed the second fewest yards on the season, and were elite against the pass. The Chiefs allowed under 190 yards per game via the air. So far in the postseason, the Chiefs have played three games, and allowed just 41 total points to the Dolphins, Bills and Ravens. Justin Reid, Trent McDuffie and L’Jarius Snead have all made big time impacts on this defense. George Karlaftis and Chris Jones both finished the regular season with 10.5 sacks. If you are not careful on Kansas City, they will get to the quarterback early and often.

Success at Allegiant Stadium

So, the beautiful facility known as Allegiant Stadium is in the heart of Las Vegas, and is a world class venue. The Raiders are proud to be hosting the game in the stadium. With the recent game ignored, the Kansas City Chiefs have had good success at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The first time these two teams played there was in November of 2020. The Chiefs scored 35 and won the game. In 2021 – the Chiefs won 41-14, and in the 2022 season, they played the final week of the season with the Chiefs winning 31-13. Kansas City would like to ignore the Christmas Day game this season, where they scored just two touchdowns, but their 3-1 mark makes them comfortable in Vegas.

There you have it.  The Kansas City Chiefs come into the big game as the underdog in this game. There is not a single person that follows the Kansas City Chiefs on a regular basis that does not think they can beat the 49ers. It will be interesting to see how this game plays out!
