NHL 2021 Stanley Cup Betting Predictions – Semifinals Series Update

Written by on June 14, 2021

The opening two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are in the books, and we are now down to the final four teams. What may come as a surprise to many is that just one top seed made it into the semi-finals, but perhaps it is not all that surprising given the regional division setup that we saw through the regular season and the playoffs. These teams saw each other a lot over the course of the season, and they were all very evenly matched heading into the postseason. This is where things start to get very interesting, as we are now seeing the winners of each division go head-to-head. Let’s take a look at the matchups and how all 4 teams got there so you can keep betting against their Stanley Cup odds.

#1 Vegas Golden Knights Vs #4 Montreal Canadiens

This 7-game semi-final series gets underway on Monday night, with the Golden Knights coming in as a top seed and the favorites to move on to the Stanley Cup Final. It was certainly not the easiest path to this point for the Golden Knights, as they were in trouble in both their previous series. They lost Game 1 against the Minnesota Wild in Round 1 before winning 3 in a row to take a stranglehold on the series. They lost the next two, though, and had to sweat out a Game 7 win. They were in an 0-2 hole in Round 2 against the Colorado Avalanche before winning 4 in a row to move on.

The Montreal Canadiens dumped the Toronto Maple Leafs in Round 1 in what was one of the more surprising results of the playoffs to this point. Making their win all the more incredible was that they were 3-1 down in the series before mounting a comeback. That momentum they built there carried over into Round 2, as they swept the Winnipeg Jets in 4 games. They may be the #4 seed, but they cannot be counted out.

#2 Tampa Bay Lightning Vs #3 New York Islanders

Regardless of the sport, we are all aware of how difficult it is for any team to repeat as champion. There is still work to be done, but the Tampa Bay Lightning are in position to win the Stanley Cup for the second straight season. After losing the final 2 games of the regular season to the Florida Panthers, there were some concerns that the champs might be in trouble in Round 1. They put that to rest by coming out and winning Games 1 and 2 versus the Panthers before going on to win the series in 6. They also won the opening 2 games against the Carolina Hurricanes and made things look pretty easy in winning it in 5 games.

The Islanders have proven to be a durable bunch during the playoffs and have had to come from behind to win each of their first 2 series. They found themselves down 2-1 to the Penguins in the opening round before reeling off 3 straight wins. It was the exact same storyline in Round 2 against the Boston Bruins, so do not count this team out if they fall behind to the Lightning.
